Dino is indeed correct.  Remember, we're having to move our best attacking CM out right to play on the wing.  If he, or Nolan get injured, you quickly see that sticking Routledge on the wing would be preferable to having a passenger next to Tiote.

ATM, we have Tiote, Ben Arfa and Smith out with Gosling not yet fully bedded in.  If something happened to Barton, we'd be up poo creek!

I'm surprised at how quickly people are righting Harper off.  Remember, he's a good quality and very experienced  goalkeeper.  Yes, he has to step aside, but hoying him out of the club could seriously harm the development of our two young keepers.  You cannot underestimate the effect that he will have on them during training, at games, the way they see him go about things etc etc etc.

Agreed, keep Harper as the steadying hand amongst the keepers and give Forster his chance.  Krul could go on loan to another Prem (newly promoted?) or Championship team.

Kruls also proven in the SPL with Falkirk, so I'm sure there would be plenty of SPL teams willing to have him as No.1.

I think that Nolan's effect in CM is underestimated and by playing him behind the striker will weaken our midfield too much.  He needs to play CM IMO.

I also think that Barton is just too good on the right to move him away and I would rather take the risk by playing Guthrie or Gosling next to Nolan than play Routledge on the right and have two wingers who have no end product.

Hopefully Carroll will be fit, and I would play Shola as a linkman stiker who can drop into midfield and allow Nolan to stay back when required to boss the midfield.  Nolan did this well against the tramps and there's no reason he couldn't do it again.

He's a squad player, you're never going to have a squad of 30 Bartons, Tiotes, Collocinis and Carrolls, they wouldn't stay because they wouldn't get the games.

Yes, he's on 50k a week, but you know what, who's faults is that?  Ours (the boards) for offering it to him in the first place.  It's not like you'd turn it down if it was offered to you.  If he behaved like Nile Ranger then I'd be aggrieved, but despite not being as gifted as others, he has still put the effort in and been proffessional, which is all you can ask for.

Just got back from the match.  I had to sit in the home end opposite the Geordies.  Several observations I have -

1.  The inbred tramps were consistently out sung by the away fans.

2.  People complain about the atmosphere at SJP, but the inbreds genuinely don't sing.

3.  They are so obsessed with us that all they shouted about was Shearer (WTF!?) and about us being b*stards.

4.  The "I wanna go home, Sunderland is a shîthole" song nearly made me burst out laughing!

5.  Some mentalist Geordie in the home end with a death wish started kicking off after we scored and was promptly removed.

6.  The home fans were so bad tempered I actually feared for my life at some points.

7.  Gutted they got that flukey goal, it was NEVER 5 minutes of injury time.

8.  If Carroll was playing, we'd have won 3 or 4 to 1.

A few months ago I signed him on CM.  He's alright, but he was only my backup CB behind Colo and Taylor.  He's got to be immensely better than Col Sambpell though!

More importantly, why has Marriner been allowed to ref us again after the shambles that was his performance at Everton.  It's absolutely clear that at best he hates Newcastle, and at worst he is a bent ref.  Should be banned from reffing ever again, and certainly not against Newcastle.
