Given results today and the Aston Villa game going as it is currently, a win away for us tomorrow would be huge!

It's definitely a weird feeling considering how things are in the hierarchy currently. I won't pretend to know a great deal about Eales but all of those videos of singing on stage and downing pints with the fans, is totally cringeworthy, like ridiculously so. It's Conference League stuff and comes across as a lad that has just downed 10 pints of Stella. In contrast, look at Amanda Staveley, built a rapport, a very strong one, with the fans and community, but did so in an elegant, endearing and 'in this together' mentality. Compare that to Eales and possible attempts to 'engage the fans', and it's night and day, and like I say, absolutely cringeworthy.

It is just my interpretation, but from those quotes from Eddie, I take it as: Howe was resolute about bringing in quality Other figures brought options to him but he wasn't keen on them Any negotiations aren't handled by him, so the negotiation 'blame' (in relation to Guehi) doesn't sit at Howe's door Gordon and Tripps have probably been unsettled by speculation around them leaving

Close this thread until Jan. It's very clear from Howe's comments in that clip above that they're going to sit tight and not going to go after people who aren't going to improve us, or cost us an absolute fortune. Unfortunate as it is, no one is coming in. Lock it!

Having digested this latest development (or non-development), I think it's hugely disappointing. We showed under Howe in his first season, what potential we had as a team and what could be done. We then had a lower finish last year despite injuries, etc... and I think that allowed us, despite a lower finish, of just what exactly we could possibly achieve. The summer window was a chance to strengthen, add that extra quality that would take us back to a 4th/5th place. I'd argue it was tweaks required rather than wholesale changes. If we have dropped the ball on this summer's window, it's more than just 'a window' for me. January is notoriously bad for getting deals done and getting value for money on the whole. So in reality, a 'poor' window, is actually us potentially sticking with what we have until next summer, despite pretty much everyone acknowledging that we may fall short again if we fail to add the tweaks and extra quality, to take us that x% higher. If things stay as they are, we have basically allowed our progress to essentially stagnate, which I think is pretty poor and not good enough considering where we could be. Others will disagree with me, and I may look back on this post at the end of the season and be proven wrong, but this is how it feels currently.

It's an absolute joke from a Palace POV in the sense they have moved goalpost on their 'desired' bid to secure him, supposedly. From our side, we better have plenty of other irons in the fire otherwise this has been very, very badly handled.
