Gonna get behind him 100%, but I just feel so deflated by the way we publicly fucked the Emery thing up. Hopefully I'll start feeling excitement in the coming days but it's not filled me with confidence really.

Went from being made up and excited if it's Emery, to disappointed by the way it leaked and failed, to completely underwhelmed if it's Howe. He has no relevant experience for the challenge here imo. We have to hope he can step up at a much bigger club with much bigger expectations and pressure.

We need a manager that's going to give the whole place a lift, and Emery with his experience of winning would have done that. Howe or Martinez won't lift the city or fanbase. Howe won't inspire potential singings either (Martinez has at least worked with world class players recently). These are both things we need, along with a manager with experience managing big clubs with demanding fans. Experience of winning trophies is also a bonus. Now is the time to re-evaluate and go for a bigger target, not settle for something uninspiring to many. If Howe and Martinez are the alternatives, then go offer Everton whatever it takes for Rafa. Or start the search again from scratch

My gut feeling is one of relief that it's not Martinez, Lampard et al. And happiness that they have made a good decision and confidence that Emery will do well also.

Does Rafa not always wear a suit?

Nothing in Jones' career history suggests he's a particularly good coach (by PL standards). The new head coach should be free to select his own coaching team. I don't really see much benefit in keeping any of the current team, Jones included. That was my thinking before he became caretaker - his team selections and tactics since then have been absolutely rank so my mind isn't changing.

Worrying times and our fixtures don't look good either. Even spending in January won't guarantee safety if we're as far adrift as it looks possible we could be by then.

I mean, some of the consortiums previous offers included the condition of Rafa being kept on. It's possible Rafa had something to do with selling the place to Staveley. He deserves this and he'd be 4 years ahead of any other manager in terms of a plan and knowing the club and area and fanbase. I can see them trying to move heaven and earth to get him. Whether it happens or not is another matter.
