What stinks about this is that Aron has had his whole football development in Iceland, has Icelandic parents, with the only connection to the USA being born there. He thinks of himself as an Icelander, but picked USA for WC reasons. It was his choice, U.S. didn't kidnap him. Plenty of players with less claim to "being American" have pulled on the jersey in recent years, we'll accept any player that wants to play for us. A good player is a good player, regardless of where he's from. I'd snap your hand off for Sigurdsson too.

Good discussion, thanks for the heads-up. Reading a lot of articles this morning, still trying to make up my mind on this move. I won't be shocked if Dempsey ends-up on loan at a European club over the winter, ala Donovan at Everton. In fact I'd put money on Everton being the club he plays for.

It's the English second-tier league, it shouldn't be close to the same level as the PL. But it's still on par with many first-tier European leagues and easily better than most European second-tier leagues.

The money that is pumped into the premier league though that is always going to be the case. Yeah it's not really a fair comparison. Relative to other European leagues, the Championship is quite good.

Well I won't be biting. All I'll say is that Dempsey has always been a guy to march to his own beat. He'll make more money in MLS than he would in Europe and he'll be able to spend more time at home. It would have been nice to see him in the CL some day, but I suppose his priorities have changed.

Of course, Dallas and Houston can't afford him either.
