  1. Apparently, Piers Morgan already accused the French of being "poisoned". This guy can't get enough of licking Ronaldo's balls?
  2. I'm divided. I want Argentina to win because they deserve it, but I also want France to win or else Ronaldo's sister will call me an ungrateful and miserable sad human being once again, via Instagram.
  3. https://sports.yahoo.com/company-faces-major-loss-buying-125936596.html Who the fuck is "sure" they'll be world champions at the 4 finals? To make this kind of decision, and looking at the design of the shirt, something tells me this "manager" is your typical "I care only for the NT" football fan who watches football every 4 years and is absolutely clueless. “I have been really impressed with England’s performance in Qatar and was sure they would win this year’s tournament. When approached by a supplier to sell the shirts, I simply couldn’t say, ‘No.’" - Yes you could, mate.
  4. I can relate. Arguably the worst hours of my life were traveling back to Portugal after the Europa League final of 2014. I still have deep in memory the sound of the mechanical needle writing Sevilla's name in the cup, as I was walking out the stadium. Riding the bus to the airport, with the freaking air conditioning stuck on max, right above my head. Then we stopped in Copenhagen, and Brussels. I lost several kgs that week, I even developed a fever. Mind you, that was the 8th (eight) european final lost in a row by Benfica. Guttman's curse is something so traumatic, that I saw people in the stands crying of sadness, even before the penalty shootout started - as they already knew we would lose again. That day was one of the most traumatic experiences of my life, footballistically speaking. When it comes to the NT obviously nothing will be worse than the final lost at home against Greece. Few people accept talking about that for long, or re-watching images about that game. EURO 2016 kind of made up for that, but not completely. We'll never get over that. Maybe something similar to England losing to Italy last year.
  5. I actually always prefer foreign national managers. National football associations are always under the pressure of lobbies from N clubs to promote their players, agents, sponsors, etc. The less a national coach is inside that net of interests, the better.
  6. I get your point. I'm still gutted today, and adding to that I am pissed off that I am gutted about this. I am telling Mrs we're having issues at work, as I spent those weeks before WC telling her I wouldn't give two fucks about it. My season was going absolutely lovely before these CR7 + his band clowns kicked in, and started giving me high hopes. And losing to Morocco ffs. Re: 2005 UEFA Cup. I clearly remember watching that game, my freshman year in college. I was rooting for NUFC of course. But let me tell you it still wouldn't be that easy after Lisbon. Alkmaar had a very strong side and Lisbon only won in the last minute of extra time. And then CSKA was a very difficult team as well.
  7. Before this World Cup I was so excited about Benfica that I barely gave a fuck about it. Pretty much how you felt about NUFC season. Now that we are out I am absolutely gutted, almost Europa League 2014 final levels. Almost! Barely slept. Tremendous headache. We are all getting older and we know that chances for teams like Portugal or England to be world champions arent that high. This year we had everything to pull it out with a bit of luck, looking at the brackets. I cant even take a good look at that Santos or CR7 faces, Christ Sake. Mrs said I never sweared so much like yesterday. Somebody please burn international football to the ground.
  8. I made myself a favour and saw that with no audio as I knew it wasnt ironic. If you lived in Portugal you would be familiar with the level of absolutely insane amount of boot licking in regards to Ronaldo. - Actors saying in live TV they have rather lost earlier if that meant Ronaldo played all the time, because of "being grateful" - His redneck family bombarding us on Instagram post after post after post, saying things like "41 is still young" - smirking at the fact he will play in 2026 - His wife making considerations about Santos tactical options - His sister calling the entire portuguese population "ungrateful bastards that killed an entire nation" (re: loss yesterday) - Santos saying he will continue anyway Please take me out of this horror movie. Its too much.
  9. Definitely salty. Morocco won fair and square. We were absolutely worthless tonight. What a punch in the gut this was. And I was not even motivated for this WC in the first place. Having problems falling asleep. Wondering how you lads are coping.
  10. Lovely half and lovely season so far. All NUFC needs to do is keeping the momentum and try not to fuck up.
  11. I would expect him to leave if we failed the UCL qualification. I expect him to stay, for now. He's having a strong beginning of season but not really sure he's all that everyone's saying and writing. But, what do I know. Back in 2011 I remember commenting in the stands of Estádio da Luz that "this Di Maria guy is too thin, he's going nowhere", last year I was commenting "Nuñez was a mistake, he's too weak psychologically", so, there's a slight chance I might be wrong again.
  12. What I meant is: he usually favors Benfica a lot in games that are worth nothing as a way of eliminating the idea that he hates Benfica. In important games he always pushes us behind as far as he can.
  13. He actually hates Benfica, and he always does this when he's whistling Benfica's friendlies OR games at the end of the season once we're out of the race. He's taking the piss.
  14. He's a mediocre referee all round. Openly favors Porto and Sporting throughout the season. We absolutely hate him.
  15. Oh, Évora. Yes. The chapel made of human skulls is fantastic. I must admit that Alentejo (the eastern part of it) is my favorite part of Portugal. Endless roads in a straight line without seeing a single person, the small villages you find with few people living in there, zero stress, like you were in the old west. Endless pieces of land with nothing but trees and cattle. But I must recognize that for a tourist that might be not that interesting.
  16. Yes. It's still easy to understand why. They speak loud and are incredibly annoying.
  17. For vacations, besides Algarve of course, I would recommend the west coast, which has fantastic beaches and landscapes. The coast of Alentejo is pretty nice too, with beaches carved in the rocks, also calmer than Algarve. Algarve is way too gentrified right now. I go there 1 week a year to have the best possible beach experience you can have here, but that's it. In the northern part of Portugal I would recommend you to visit the Douro region, which has absolutely stunning views around the river where Porto wine is made. The north is way more green, people are nicer, food is better, compared to the south. Gerês is a fantastic natural reservoir. If you like history, monasteries and castles, I would recommend places like Guimarães, Óbidos, Lisboa, Batalha/Alcobaça. Most of them are kind of related with British history as well as many troops fought and settled here after episodes like the Aljubarrota battle of 1385, or the French invasions.
  18. I live in a coastal village and there are many, many British expats living here all year-round. Some young couples with kids too. The downside is that there are lots of French folks too. They speak in French, which is annoying.
  19. The new stadium is fine, but most of the fans don't forgive the demolition of the old stadium. It should have been renewed back in 2004. The outskirts of that stadium were way, way nicer. Some of the oldest memories I have is going to that stadium with my uncle, with more than 100K people inside; as a little kid I felt like floating when the crowd was roaring. Regarding the museum, those 2 European Cups are lovely, but all I can remember when I see them are the 5 lost UCLs + 3 lost ELs + 2 lost Intercontinental Cups, in a row, after those.
  20. Top class finishing at the NUFC's second.
