I can’t help but wonder if the media is assisting with the old sports washing by painting the average fan as some sort of Saudi advocate. They are basically creating a siege mentality amongst the fanbase which will only harden if we become successful.

I think the conversation is more nuanced than turning our noses up. We should look for someone younger with a higher ceiling than Lingard. Lingard is of course better than Almiron and Murphy and possibly Fraser however would he be motivated? Would he be worth paying over 100k per week for?

It’s a funny one, he’d be a massive upgrade on say Miggy or Murphy but I would really want someone younger with a higher ceiling coming in.

I expect us to pass on Lingard given his wages demands and his age. He would have been a great January signing but in the summer we should have better options.

We are without Wilson and Trippier, they are goth Howe’s lieutenants. Also, from what I witnessed it’s clear Joelinton and ASM weren’t fully fit. We can throw in Shelvey as well who would be starting I’m sure.

Thought we controlled large parts of the game. One of the issues is the amount of injuries we have, how many lower mid table sides go away from home with half a team injured and control large spells of the game? it’s clear we have a long way to go but things are moving in the right direction, let’s not let this setback cause massive over reactions.
