I just think it serves no purpose other than getting the fans even more pissed off. Offering Rafa the same terms with minimal investment + not signing the likes of Rondon.. Ashley is going to claim his hands were tied. As far as Rafa is concerned if he accepts the contract and we dont get taken over, he is going to be feeling a little foolish and the club will have wasted yet most of another window.
