Football has never operated in an open market.  It’s why you have transfer fees in the first place - if you move jobs, does your employer have to buy you out of your old contract?

No compete agreements, gardening leave and lawsuits are very common in many businesses for talent / high ranked execs moving within the same field. The transfer fee and player registration are the equivalents resolving that.

He's often in the studio at NBC here in the US. Always seems the most balanced and well researched.

Of course, he drops this clanger today in the Newport game when Hojlund scored "He hasn't scored as many as they would have liked, but they have a reputation for bringing the young kids through". They paid 80m for him.

I watched the first half on ESPN and the second on ITV. ESPN's co-comm was Danny Higgenbotham, who made at least half a dozen accurate observations about our season. His opener was "they've been struggling defensively as Dubravka won't leave his area, causing the defensive to fall back and creating far more space for their midfield to try and cover". I was stunned. It was like "this guy actually watches us play".

Someone posted about the Buffalo Bills new stadium this morning, they were shit for fucking years, never won a Super Bowl, and they are building a new stadium. It would never have happened if  it wasn’t for the closed league nature of the NFL where they know they are going to get at least a billion over the next few years. The Premier League doesn’t have that luxury, except for a few teams.

They are getting $850m from the local government disguised as creating jobs lest they fuck off to St Louis or somewhere.

Do Newcastle have any sell on clause for Tony? If figures are to believed they recon he could go for a £100 mil ?

We probably got a tenner from Peterborough, but I think only they might get a bit of a windfall now.

That was about as comfortable as it's ever going to get in a derby, complete domination from the first whistle and virtually zero threat other than a couple of speculative pot shots.

Poundland Barry Bannan was completely anonymous bar those two shots. Don't know where he was hiding.

On the training ground/stadium sponsor I get the feeling they're leaving these as last resorts. Sponsoring the stadium will cause ructions, from outside and even within the fanbase, so why make such a move if you are still increasing your revenue in other areas.

Just have PIF create a new subsidiary called St James. No apostrophe, it's different :) Even Infinite Athletic got approved in the end.

Never expected the Beale In(g) movement to have such immediate results. Well done to Uncle Jimmy’s Cov yesterday.

They said on Total Sport yesterday that Sunderland have had 9 managers (17 with caretakers) since Mark Robins was appointed at Coventry. That wasn't even 7years ago.

  10. Last night would have been perfect example for Isak and Barnes to come on after 60 minutes. Wilson wears down defenders that "don't like it up 'em", but we don't have the subs to then finish them off at the moment.
