I'm not defending Lascelles whatsoever, as he is certainly our 4th choice CB but I imagine Lascelles suffered alot from our famously poor pre season last year.

When on form, his defending is OK. It's his ability on the ball which let's him down.

Everyone suffered under Steve Bruce, we all did. Lascelles speed of thought is his biggest limitation though, he could well be far fitter and stronger than he’s been in previous seasons but his reading of what’s going on and making decisions for himself when we’re under pressure will always be an Achilles heel.

Botman on the other hand reads everything wonderfully while also having the physical element. There’s such a gulf between them.

  2. Ah I’ve nothing against Forest, a club with history who’ve done more than most other clubs out there, been out in the wilderness too long so great to have them back in the PL, every clubs fans has whoppers, ours included so wouldn’t pay much attention to their forums or twitter shite.

As for the game itself, I’m more confident about us as a side than I’ve been in years but they’ve spent money and every game in this league is hard now so nothing is a given.

That being said, I think the atmosphere and quick start might catch them like deer in the headlights.

I also put him in the same bracket to be honest even though his goals are higher

Pound shop Saint-Maximin, some of the skill, some of the pace etc. Aside from making up numbers I can’t see how he would fit into the description of players who can come in and make a difference as Howe mentioned.

Maddison of course fits that profile but not this lad though.

  4. The process is, club speaks to agent - “what’s the story with <insert name>, would he be open to a move away?”

Agent: “well he’s got x amount of time left on his contract but club aren’t prepared to meet his wage demands on a new deal”

Club: “So if we opened contract negotiations at x amount, can we begin to try and negotiate a fee with his club?”

Agent: “my client has indicated that he’d be interested”

Anyone suggesting anything else is talking through their arse, remember, Hugo Ekitike had accepted the proposal in principal until it became known that PSG were interested. All those steps had happened beforehand.

  5. I think we’ll properly go in for the players we really want. Perhaps an enquiry was made about Werner but the response may just have been “sorry, he’s off somewhere else”

Assuming we can land Maddison, that gives us different options, he can play right side of a midfield 3 but he can also play that typical no.10 role if we went 4-2-3-1.

Systems obviously matter, or at least being able to react to someone else’s by being able to change, but personnel will always be the most important thing.

£80m for Maguire… no wonder they’re playing hardball.

Yes but that was a watershed moment, every club so desperate to get the next Van Dijk, Leicester just had to hold firm for a few weeks and then they massively overpaid. It was a free lesson to be learned by every other club.

Delete this and your last post before anyone notices. The guy is going to be a monster.

It's fitting your name is Dr. Jinx, because you've pretty much jinxed us with these posts when we face them early on.

? I ain’t jinxing anything, could be foolish words but I really think City have made themselves weaker over the summer despite bringing Haaland in.

The guy already has been a monster but every player has a chink the armour, his I think will be the way they play, the pressure of the role he has and the potential for the first time in his career where he won’t just be banging them in just by showing up. He’s not really had any adversity yet.

Haaland has been a hype train (for a reason) but top scorer in the CL even if he comes from a lesser league. Not bad. De Bruyne and Son also came from this lesser league. Now two of the if not the best players in their position. But if hes a perfect fit for City remains to bee seen. Give the guy a match or two before calling him a flop. This place sometimes.

The Benficas and some here got along with the technique suggestion.

I’m not calling him a flop, just reminds me of Andy Carroll a bit in his stature. I think Man Utd would have been a better fit, Spurs would be a good fit. Basically any team that plays that fast counter attack.. the slow build up Man City have will prove frustrating I think.

  9. I don’t know who was slagging off Nunez but I was gutted when the dippers signed him. I thought he would have been perfect for us but we just aren’t there yet.

Haaland on the other hand, it’s been a hype train but he’s been playing in a lesser league, his fee may well be cheap as am sure he will score goals but it might be a case of arriving at City at the wrong time. I think they’ve made some poor outgoings and not really ever replaced the leadership since Kompany retired.. they might need that this season.

  10. Only seen a bit of the second half but seeing Haaland sort of prancing about, he reminds me of a faster, uglier Andy Carroll. He just doesn’t seem a City type player, unless they change a lot to make it work for him.

  11. A little concerning to see a few nearly dead on their feet after a 90 mins but obviously very warm too.. I wonder if the changing the whole team after 45 mins in the previous games has left a few of them if a little off the pace. But have to trust the manager and his team know what they are doing.

Hopefully they get well rested now before the weekend, the hard work is essentially done.

  12. Whether we sign him or not, that sort of situation can’t not unsettle a player. One way or the other we’re potentially putting one over on Leicester who could be in for a struggle this season.

  13. Re: Paqueta, maybe being Bruno’s best mate is a reason Eddie Howe hasn’t been interested, I mean there’s been lots of talk about him but zero credible reports that we’ve ever actually been in for him.

Maybe Howe doesn’t want any cliques in the dressing room.

Maddison is a player with similar attributes whos proven that he can do it in this league, pricey no doubt but the club haven’t just randomly bid for this guy, they’ve been tipped off that either the price is lower than expected, Leicester really need the cash, the player really wants to leave, or all of these simultaneously.

Really surprised at this as I wound have thought players at that level were slightly out of our reach at this point but that would be a statement signing for sure.

I was at their first game. The Rob Lee Testimonial. We lost to Bilbao. I was not that impressed with either of them, though Robert did look keen. Thought we'd finish 11th for the third year in a row, but then everything just clicked. Let's hope for a repeat.

I don’t think we’ve brought in the spark yet which is going to set the whole thing off. Like Bellamy could finish obviously but he was just electric with pace and generally made intelligent runs behind. Very few defenders got the better of him when it came to that he was also a massive arsehole so he had players wound up all the time. Actually loved having him at the club and he shouldn’t have been sold.

I was in Kos when Robert signed. Just remember thinking who?

I was on a local holiday, had one of those WAP phones which cost an arm and a leg to go online for just a few minutes.. there was some sort of teamtalk type thing with basic text.. same, who?

But they did mention he was a winger with a decent goals record. I think we’d already signed Bellamy at that point. Wasn’t particularly wowed by that signing either but Bobby knew what he was doing.
