This team reminds me of Liverpool last season. Impacted by injuries but more than capable of a late surge. An Europa spot next season will be a good outcome in my opinion and a League Cup win will be even better! There’s a lot of football left to play.

This team have barely trained together as a unit let alone played together because of our schedule. A lot of moves tonight didn’t come off because of lack of familiarity and perhaps a reliance on Bruno, but even with so many out if they do manage to build some understanding together on the training pitch during the international break then I’m confident their collective game will improve IF we have to play a similar lineup again.

If only Ross Barkley played like this consistently.

I felt he was to blame for the equaliser, as he surged forward to close the opposing defender down while leaving us outnumbered 2v1 which ultimately lead to the goal. My heart sank when he couldn’t catch up because I had a bad feeling something might come out of that. But he was knackered and Howe should have subbed him off well before that. Other than that he was tidy on the ball but had two chances to make a shot in the box but fluffed his lines. Similar to what we saw in the previous games.

I believe we can play a different way and be effective with Tonali and a Maddison-type player. Big Joe can also progress with the ball.
