Had to go up this season as it'll be much tougher for them next.

Aye. This was their shot. At least for the next couple seasons anyway. With none of the three that came up going back down, it's going to be a strong 3 relegated whoever it ends up being. Southampton have a few high potential youngsters who will either storm the league, or (with their outgoing) provide them with a budget way beyond anyone else. Leicester will have the Maddison and Barnes money to spend, and even before replacing those 2 they'd have one of the strongest squads in the Championship. Leeds and Everton would also both be fine, though with Everton I guess there is the actual existential threat to their actual existence should they go down, if you believe some of the reporting.

howe in his presser saying its too late and not a good idea to make any big tactical/formation changes.

wants his players relaxed and doesnt want to distract or overload them with new info.

Agree with this, especially with how well Howe likes his teams drilled. The last big tactical overhaul took place in the Summer over an entire pre-season. Think any big changes again will come this Summer.

About time they brought back jazzy goalkeeper tops. I hate the plain dull ones, looks like they've just got them from some generic kit shop. Those Asics and Adidas ones were fantastic!

I could be wrong, but didn't this tie into theories about peoples brains being drawn to louder patterns, therefore they'd subconsciously aim for the keeper when taking a shot? Then it all changed and people decided it would be better for keepers to blend into the background as much as possible and they all got very boring.

Whats similar between Tierney & Wood?

Nothing at all. One is a fantastic (potentially elite) full back who has had some issues with injury. The other is a bottom half of the table target man who doesn't really get injured. £25m was probably an over-payment for Wood. £30m would be about right/potentially be an underpayment for Tierney.

When fit he’s one of the most complete full-backs in the world. I’d definitely take him if the price is right.

Agree with this. I know he has had injury issues these past couple seasons. But if we sign him for anything less than £30m and he manages to move past those issues then it will be one of the best pieces of business we will have done since the takeover. He is a complete modern full back.

Quick show of hands, what's the best home kit we've had post-adidas?

Personally I think 17-18. The first Fun88 one that I associate with Mikel Merino. Awful sponsor, but an absolutely lush (if a bit too tight) kit imo. The quintessential Newcastle kit imo, perfect amount of black and white and the return of the red numbers.

I also really liked this one from the following season. Always think of it in my head as the 'Rondon kit'. Was a good year, had the throwback hoops for the away shirt as well.

  7. Is there actually speculation I've missed on Noon taking over the front of shirt sponsor? Or is this just for mock-up purposes? Because you're all getting my hopes up for a sexy kit next season.

Sounds like Gordon was in our long term thinking. Both Howe and Ashworth are fans.

Absolutely was. Club has put out through their trusted journos (Caulkin, Waugh etc) that the only reason Gordon happened in Jan is because he was a long term target who they saw an opportunity to get in that may not come up again.

He went to watch Botman for the u21s before we signed him. Not sure he just might like to have a final look before he approves going for a player. Just guessing but I imagine since he's basically the guy that brings everything together he likes to have some input if it's a hefty chunk of change we're parting with.

Well that's the Maddison/Barnes moves off then after that display.

It's class, this. Really wouldn't have it any other way. Can barely get Thursday out of my head. Compare this to my frame of mind during the Bruce years and the latter Pardew years, where I either couldn't give a monkeys or was actively rooting against us - against a backdrop of general misery and depression... it's just epic.

Aye, whenever I start feeling too nervous or stressed about the run-in I keep reminding myself that we are guaranteed Europa League next season at least. Even at the start of this season if you told me that I'd have been amazed. Compared to the past 10+ years where it's just felt like a slog, I'd take this feeling any day of the week.
