  1. Not sure that the lad is worth more than 15m in fairness - it seemed a decent price at the time - obviously 35m was insane
  2. We haven’t won a domestic trophy in my lifetime - and I’m fed up with that being the case. Trophies live in the memory and are what the game is about - honestly, who’ll likely remember a run of the mill league match against Spurs many moons from now?

Agreed re FFP - I'm perfectly happy for the club to make these sort of transfers, but wouldn't like to see the panicked scramble that occurred in June. I'm also aware that 'we don't know the accounts', apparently, so we shouldn't worry about that stuff We definitely will have that. Personally, I'm perfectly ok with the club betting everything on red in the form of Guehi
  4. Would rather rest Isak vs Spurs and actually have a crack at a trophy Didn't we spend the Ashley years railing against his shit attitudes to the cups? Or did we win loads of trophies and so we can write the League Cup off now?

From what I can make out (at least from what's been reported), Palace set their stall out early re the asking price, and we've made a number of bids which are both below it and comprise of a load of add-ons. Other than Parish being a wanker, I completely respect their position - they haven't budged, and nor should they. What is a little frustrating from our end is if we do end up meeting the price that we've ended up with a cup-tied player as the only differential in meeting their requirements weeks ago. If we don't meet their price, then fair enough, we weren't prepared to pay it (though perhaps we should have moved on earlier).
  6. They tend to conflate Robson being spat at while England manager for dropping Keegan with us ‘forcing him out’ in 2004, when no-one spat at him

A fully functioning Botman and Schar are definitely less vulnerable to pressing because they’re good on the ball - but even then the lack of pace causes problems. A top young centre half being brought in makes sense.

Worst part is it genuinely felt like the sort of eye-rolling moment which might happen!

Never trusted owt from Killy tbf. Even my mate who lives there.

Aye, that’s what having half the turnover will do - our first choice XI is a match for all except the top three for me. But our back-ups … yeah, not so much. Some of them would struggle to get run outs for bottom six sides. Keeping as many as possible fit and available is key this season.

Didn’t Ornstein break the story - and then the usual lot followed in behind pretending that they knew something?

    Yep, likely true enough

The back line has looked shaky for some time and that nervousness impacts all of our play - completely agree

I’d always read that they were pretty much standard clauses. If not, apologies to Guehi

Perhaps. I’m also aware that it would cost him money to do that, too.

I can see how long term it could hurt us - every club will call our bluff. But we’ll see.

If the lad is that desperate to join he could hand a transfer request …

Has to be said, if we end up offering more than the asking price I might join in some of the chorus re Mitchell

Where did I say they should hand their players over? What they’ve done is perfectly reasonable. He’s their player, they set a price if they wish to sell. Nothing wrong there. Of course Arsenal’s support will have a lot of people like that. Most clubs of that size will - they only support them because they’re big and successful. They’re not supporting Barnet from far away, are they? Palace’s support appears to have a higher-than-average proportion of wankers in it. More than happy to ‘throw some shade’ their way. Fuck them.

Arsenal are, and have always been, a bigger club than us. You’re setting up straw men here.

Palace are well within their rights to stick to their guns re their own players - no issue at all. But they’re not some grand old club or owt. They’re historically a lower league club - don’t see anything controversial about that.

Tbf that’s simply because of the crazy money which flows around in top flight football I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek, and obviously any top flight club these days is a serious one

They’re a bit nothing-y. If you were writing a comprehensive history of English football I doubt they’d trouble the references section.

Isak would be the hardest of the lot - but then, how many thought Isak would be this good when or before he signed?
