  1. I also think it’s the better goal for the reasons you’ve outlined - each to their own, though.
  2. Yeah, definitely see where you’re coming from on that. If you’re making a list of top ten greatest midfielders of all time, he’s in there for me. But he’s not a Pelé / Maradona / Messi level player, for me at least.
  3. The headbutt doesn’t change the course of the final, of course. Though it wasn’t exactly a good idea He does get elevated, you’re right - and I wouldn’t elevate him above Iniesta, personally. But in terms of his era, he was absolutely the best midfielder around, and for a spell probably was the best player on Earth.
  4. It’s a weird list. Most of the goals are from the c21st. Carlos Alberto’s goal not being in the top three just shows that whoever made the list doesn’t appreciate great football. Even the blurb doesn’t mention what makes it truly great - every single Brazilian outfield player touched the ball before the goal is scored. In a WC Final. It’s perfection. At least van Basten’s volley is in there.
  5. Zidane was overrated? Like all the very best players, he did it when it mattered most.
  6. Yep, that’s boiled my piss. I can’t stand Ryder. He’s a shit stirrer with the worst grasp of written English I’ve ever seen from someone employed as a journalist. That was a cowardly approach to that question - he could have asked it without the ‘fans’ patter.
  7. Is Lascelles back? I don’t think trying something new is a bad idea
  8. The lack of even lip service to contrition is surprising. I know that there is a view that this is a private issue, but it’s a matter of public record - I’m kind of shocked that there hasn’t even been a bland statement via his agent or the club.
  9. I don’t there is even the remotest similarity there. Tonali’s own actions caused this situation - it’s not bad luck or something that could happen to anyone.
  10. European qualification should be the aim - it should always have been the aim for NUFC, even under Ashley. I’m not that bothered if that means Conference League etc. Europe is Europe.
  11. I haven’t seen evidence that he isn’t. So I’m taking it as red that he is.
  12. I would start Burn ahead of Livramento at centre half if given the choice. But I’d play Livramento at FB ahead of Burn.
  13. I’m happy to hold Bruno and Isak to account for not doing what Milan would have done - a professional foul. But Milan had FOUR forwards on at that point. A draw meant they were out of Europe entirely - what Schar did was take a wholly unnecessary risk and we paid for it
  14. He’s not someone who can tuck in and cover at centre half though, is he? NB I wouldn’t pick Burn ahead of Livramento either. But I also wouldn’t allow Schar to think he’s fucking Beckenbauer, and I would tell the dozy sod to stay in shape / formation.
  15. The club don’t have a choice tbf. There isn’t an option not to pay the lad - I don’t understand why people are choosing that hill to die on. Hey, we could sack him - but that hurts us, not him.
  16. I can’t argue that - but they simply don’t do it. And Schar can’t be blind to that. It works better when Joelinton and Willock play, as they offer cover on the left & do the defensive work, allowing Burn to tuck in (BDB gets called all sorts on this site, and people wonder how he plays ahead of Livramento - for me, it’s because Burn allows Schar and / or Trippier to bomb on more).
  17. I’m not saying that they shouldn’t be able to do it. But they don’t. Bruno might as well stand pointing in the direction of our goal when it happens.
  18. I mean, you’ve just answered the very point you’ve been raising. None of the MFs can cover - so why does Schar keep doing it?
  19. Let’s not get too Rinus Michels. Who is more likely to cause problems in the opposition area - Bruno or Schar? Given that I’ve asked a rhetorical question, Schar needs to stop whatever Total Football fantasy is playing in his head and get back to playing centre back.
  20. Thirty years it’s been, we’re due a result. Fuck it, I’m going to go for a shock win.
  21. It wouldn’t be a terrace - safe seating still has seat numbers. The actions which followed the Taylor Report knackered all of it - safe standing will improve it, a singing section will improve it - but not by much. The truth is that even when it was good decades ago, it was actually not great most of the time. Crowds have always been louder for some matches than others. Forest at home for a lunchtime kickoff isn’t going to sound all that different no matter what is done.
  22. The reverse is true for me. Why would they? I didn’t know it existed for years and I’m an actual NUFC supporter. I can’t picture Sandro surfing these pages
