I did too, tbh. He wouldn’t be close to one of the better number 9s I’ve seen for us, but I still think he did a job up front. We wouldn’t have got the same points tally with Gayle.

I honestly think Mitrovic is as likely to wind himself up and get red carded as score. Point to prove and all that.

Yep - this time last year (it really was only that long ago) we started the season unfit. It took Howe a couple of months to get the players to PL fitness levels. Now look at them. The goals will come (especially as better and better players are added - less injury prone ones would also be useful for this play style). Howe is absolutely the right man at the right club for me (Jeff).

Yep, there was a general consensus that we were severely lacking quality wingers, and probably a creative midfielder. It’s hard to see Almiron, Fraser or Murphy as being PL level. If there is money to spend in Jan, a new winger has to be the focus you’d think.

My only worry - and it is a minor one - is that we don’t know what the owners expectations are, nor how they will react to stretches of disappointing results. And by the owners, I’m referring to PIF. For me, Howe should be given a couple of years to build - we’re so much better than this time last year irrespective of money spent. The bloke is clearly an excellent manager / coach.

It looked more spectacular from the side-on TV angle. Once you saw it from behind Fraser it was obvious that the save was completely straightforward- the keeper didn’t need to move. Had it gone in, it would count as an error.

Wood cost £25m, if that’s owt to go by. The squad has been neglected for years - though no doubt like you, I can’t wait for the day when I don’t have to watch half of the current squad play for us again.

We’d have needed to spend another £150m minimum to get the squad sorted. We definitely need more quality, but I’m not sure how much money people think is available. So far, only Wood has been a bad signing.
