  1. I think the footballing gods should have mercy on Karius given what he’s gone through. And on us - Man Utd has won plenty, losing this one game won’t be owt to them
  2. Yep. Pope and Trippier definitely make my all-time NUFC XI (I’m 40); Bruno G would be hard to displace in midfield, and Botman might just pick up the left-sided CB position. Froggy has a point re recency bias, but like you say the competition in some of those positions isn’t exactly strong.
  3. In Spain they’re usually called ‘Manchester’. Which must piss Man City fans off no end
  4. Yeah, sorry but I can’t laugh at the ‘Moaty’ stuff. He fucking murdered his ex’s new partner and hospitalised her before blinding a police officer for no reason whatsoever (that happened pretty much within sight of where I lived at that point). There’s fuck all funny about the ironic veneration of a murdering cunt for me
  5. It doesn’t for me. It’s the club’s name for fuck’s sake. And everyone I’ve ever met refers to ‘Man Yoo’ and ‘Man City’, not ‘United’ or ‘City’.

No. There are automatic one and three game suspensions depending on the nature of the offence. Of course, this can be extended even further depending on context.

It doesn’t delay anything - the red isn’t put on ice while the appeal process takes place. The appeal would likely be seen as frivolous (and I don’t think you’ll ever see a clearer red card offence other than someone being openly assaulted) and he’ll end up missing Man City too.

Likewise - that lad has been punished enough, it’s the biggest club game of his career so far he’s missing out on. It’s a tragedy for him, and a massive problem for us - but he’s more than enough credit in the bank as far as I’m concerned

Yes, I know where you’re coming from - it’s more instinct than obvious intent. But the outcome, unfortunately for us, is the same either way edit: when I say intent I mean he deliberately, not accidentally, handled the ball.

Normally the keeper is not included in the ‘last man’ conversation - for an example, see Cieran Clark’s sending off vs Norwich last season. The last outfield defender is the last man, as normally the keeper still needs to be beaten. But Pope was beaten and committed a deliberate handball to prevent an obvious goal scoring opportunity - there being another defender between the attacker and the goal isn’t relevant in those circumstances

‘Loris, have you ever been in a Turkish prison?’ ‘No, but I played for Besiktas …’
  12. I’m absolutely onboard the Karius bus here now. The name ‘Jak Alnwick’ is not to be mentioned on here, like a damnatio memoriae

Do remember the ‘You’re the Ref!’ strips from comics and newspapers? Some of the lads on here would give some cracking answers
  14. Football history has its examples of these stories coming good - Nigel Spink in the ‘82 European Cup Final (his second professional game) being probably the most notable. Hope springs eternal folks

No, the defender being between you and the goal relies on the defender being considered ‘last man’. Again, ‘last man’ means the last outfield player - the goalkeeper is normally considered a given. That is how a foul by the last defender with only the keeper to beat is a red card offence.
  16. Is ‘fog man back’ an option?

Honestly, I can’t get onboard the accidental handling train with some of you but I feel your pain - I know why folks want it to be true
  18. Between us, we’ve answered your original question

It can, though if it’s viewed as frivolous they’ll no doubt fast track it. And I reckon it would be
  20. I’ve just had an avacado as part of my breakfast, but I did have it with a cup of tea and scratched my knackers several times while the kettle boiled which made sure I stayed true to my working class roots
