We're well ahead of Sunderland, pre-season wise, and it showed. Just a testimonial but 3-0 vs. EPL opposition is pleasing.

Hearts vs. Sunderland on Saturday. Around 2-3k Mackems coming up to Edinburgh, apparently. We've played Newcastle in pre-season games in the past, including John Robertson's testimonial in 1992, but the only Sunderland visit I recall was in 1989. Hearts 1-0 in the torrential Edinburgh rain and the Mackems were in the uncovered, completely open to the elements, Gorgie Road terracing. 😃 Eric Gates got dogs abuse everytime he came anywhere near "the shed" at the opposite end. No idea why. As always, best wishes to Newcastle United for 2025/26.

Just had a wee look on a Sunderland forum. They're over it already, apparently. Hibs fans claimed the same when Hearts pumped them 5-1 in the 2012 Scottish Cup final. It's childish, I know, but part of the joy of winning silverware is that your main rivals are devasted. 😃 😀 😄 The more they protest otherwise, the more you know it's cutting them to the quick. Congratulations lads and lassies.

That's how I felt when Hearts played Rangers in the 1998 Scottish Cup final. No silverware since the early '60's, so many kicks in the teeth, so decided to not get too hung up on the outcome but just enjoy the day. Then, we got a penalty after 30 seconds, took the lead and all that went oot the window. 😃 I hope your dreams come true, lads. We won 2-1, btw.
