Yorkie
wonder wheather our chairman having smiths name on his back for all to see has much to do with it but i might be reading a bit too much into that That crossed my mind as well. Smith's signing made little sense in terms of squad building or indeed the first team. The fact we're putting him on the right wing is testament to that. But seeing Ashley turning up to games with Smith on his back does make you wonder, he seems undroppable at the moment yet he's offering the team nothing. Sam'd be out the door faster than you could say 'Alan Smith is good' if that was the case. Can't see it tbh.
biggs
Following Ferguson's slow easing of Evra into the ManU first team, and the drastic improvement in Evra's performances to the extent that hes now arguably the best left back in the country, I think its a good idea to ease Enrique into Premiership football, no matter whether hes fully fit or not. Wasn't Evra signed in the January window? Therefore he didn't have a pre-season with his team-mates etc. If Enrique doesn't start soon, more and more fans will be asking questions and the pressure on his shoulders will be even greater. well at bolton sam didn't have to contend with the same numbers of brain dead idiots who will start getting jumpy cause a player isn't thrown in at the deap end after 24 hours in the country. hardly 24 hours since he signed more like 6th aug or is that not enough time for you and at the expense of not trying to get a settled first 11 on the pitch playing in there natural positions ,imho people on here are getting frustrated with a manager who will not at this moment in time play to the strengths of the personel in the squad being a 4 4 2 formation instead of 4 3 3 with hardly any creation for the forwards and players out of position when in some cases it has not been needed
Guest jamesmartinsmith
Everton will be a hard match for him to start, Arteta was cracking today. Arteta would tear N'Zogbia to shreds. Enrique must start against Everton, he is a left-back and may even be able to judge his compatriot's style of play ...
ChezGiven
He may well start next game and at £6m, he needs to be close to ready to starting most games soon. He does need easing in and to be settled before he is put under pressure to perform. If he makes a howler as he is feeling the pressure, then the certain derision from our fans will do him no good. Dont see why he should be under more pressure if he isnt playing....

gray
Just saw the Arsenal game, and thought Jose looked quite decent, put in a nice cross for Martins who should have scored etc. got forward well, and definitely better than anything defensively we've had on the left for a good while. Can't understand why he isn't getting started.

Took him at least 6 months to adapt and he is younger than Enrique

I thought Smith was OK first half, or was it just because he stood out more with his peroxide crew cut?

STM
Pleased to see Enrique start on Sunday and I thought he had a canny game for his first Premiership start. Me too, he looked like left back was actually his position which is a rare treat at St James'. Got forward well but seemed to prefer the early cross as opposed to beating their fullback, which was interesting. His crossing wasn't bad, he did however have a few misplaced passes in the game but most did. Sam definately prefers his fullbacks to be big and this lad is certainly that.
