GM
Ligue 1 - Baros caught speeding at 170mph Eurosport - Fri, 02 Nov 12:15:00 2007 Former Liverpool player Milan Baros has set a new speeding record after being clocked at nearly 170 miles per hour in his Ferrari. The Czech striker, now of Lyon, was stopped by police on a motorway between Lyon and Geneva in the French region of Ain. Authorities said the radar reading of 271km/h (168.4mph) was the fastest speed ever recorded in the region, easily beating the 248km/h (154mph) set by a motorcyclist in 2000. Baros told police that he wanted to let his passenger "hear the sound of a Ferrari engine". The 26-year-old had his black Ferrari 430 and licence confiscated and now faces a three-year driving ban. He had to take a taxi back to Lyon. Colonel Claude Loron said: "The policeman had to take action because he did not believe his eyes when he saw the speed registered by the radar. It is a speed record for this area." Former Lyon forward Sylvain Wiltord was apprehended at training last season after being clocked driving 152km/h (94mph) in a 90km/h (55mph) zone. Brilliant excuse! Baros: Excuse me, Mr Officer, but i'm sure you'll agree that the engine of a Ferrari is inaudible under 150mph.
