NUFC fans plan new match protest

Feb 5 2009 by Sam Wood, Evening Chronicle

HUNDREDS of Toon fans are set to stage a mass protest over the club’s plight.

The supporters will vent their fury at owner Mike Ashley and his board at the demonstration, which will take place an hour before the Magpies’ televised clash with Everton.

Newcastle United Supporters Club has secured the backing of police to gather at Grey’s Monument at 3pm on February 22.

They rally was announced at NUSC’s latest meeting at the Tyneside Irish Centre.

NUSC spokesman Michael Ord said: “Everybody we have spoken to is behind this idea and we want as many people as possible to get involved.

“There is an awful of people who are absolutely fed-up. There was a lot of anger after Kevin Keegan’s departure but over the few months after that things died down a bit and we won a few games of football.

“But what is currently happening is unacceptable and we just feel we have no choice but to do this. In the space of two years, we have gone from being a buying club to a selling club. In recent history we have been up near the top of the league – under Keegan, then Robson – but now we seem to be aiming for the top of the bottom third of the league.

“How can that be the case for a club that has one of the biggest fan bases in Europe?”

One of these days someone will show them the club's accounts, and then perhaps they'll figure out this supposed transition from "buying club" to "selling club". It's more like a transition from "borrowing club" to "finally having to live within its means club".

This Ord is the knacker who accused Ashley of deiberately sabotaging Bobby Robson day, no?
