Another great result for Whitley yesterday and to win 2-1 despite being 1-0 down after 89 minutes for the 2nd time in 3 away games is remarkable. Think they're unbeaten in something like 24 matches in the Vase now and have won their last 15 games in all competitions this season. The club record is 16 consecutive wins and this was set in the mid 1960's I think so they can equal that and book a trip to Wembley all in one go on Saturday.

Shame the 2nd leg clashes with NUFC v Wolves.

Has such a level of domestic cup domination been reproduced by any other team in recent years - can only think of Arsenal in the FA Cup around 2001 - 2003 (3 finals in a row?). Maybe Carlisle in the JPT... :)

Since beating Poole Town on Saturday and qualifying for the FA Trophy Final at Wembley for the 3rd consecutive year Whitley Bay have also won 2 further league games; 2-0 at Norton & Stockton on MOnday night and 1-0 at Stokesley last night meaning that they have won 18 games on the spin now and smashed a club record set in 1954.

They are at home to Ashington on Saturday. It's a fiver to get in (£3 concessions) and with us not playing until Sunday it would be good if a few Toon fans could get along to support them. They had almost 3,000 there on Saturday and over 600 at their last home league game which is incredible for Northern League level.

Have they thought of going up to the next rung on the football league ladder or would they be at risk of doing what Newcastle Blue Star and Durham City did?

They announced just after Christmas that they would be applying for Promotion but they need to finish in the top 2 to do that. At the moment they are 5th but should they win their games in hand they would move up to 2nd so they have every chance. Interestingly since they applied for promotion they have won every single game since so it appears the manager and players are desperate for it. No reason why they couldn't make a go of it at the next level as I think they already get higher crowds than all but 1 team in the Evo Stik Division 1 and they had their ground graded not long ago and Hillheads was given the green light to host Northern Premier League football.

That was dodgy external business partner, and old out of date FA rules that done those two clubs over :( NBS were held up for £65,000 due to improvements made to Wheatsheaf Ground, because they left to use Kingston Park. Durham were told by the FA they weren't allowed to use artificial pitch, so they weren't promoted and all their players left for other clubs. Both terrible ways to see a club fold and fall back down the ladder.

I hope they do take promotion, it'd be nice to see more Northern League teams take the leap from the comfort zone. More North-East teams participating in the pyramid can only be a good thing for the region.
