Stu
As things stand, presuming nothing is announced between now and midnight, our summer transfer activity has been: In Confirmed Yohan Cabaye (Lille) - £4.8m MIDFIELD 25yo French international Demba Ba (West Ham United) - Free STRIKER 26yo Senegalese international Sylvain Marveaux (Rennes) - Free MIDFIELD 25yo French former u-21 international Mehdi Abeid (RC Lens) - Free MIDFIELD 18yo French u-19 international Gabriel Obertan (Man United) - £3.25m WINGER/STRIKER 22yo French u-21 internationa Davide Santon (Inter) - £5m DEFENDER 20yo Italian international Rob Elliot (Charlton Athletic) - <£1m GK Out Confirmed Kevin Nolan (West Ham) - £4m MIDFIELD 29yo former England-U21 international Sol Campbell (released) DEFENDER 36yo former England international Shefki Kuqi (released) SUB Ben Tozer (Northampton) - Free Kazenga LuaLua (Brighton) - On loan until January WINGER Wayne Routledge (Swansea City) - £2m WINGER 26yo former England-U21 international James Tavernier (Carlisle United) - On loan for a month Phil Airey (Hibernian) - On loan for six months Xisco (Deportivo La Coruna) - Season-long loan STRIKER 25yo former Spanish-U21 international Jose Enrique (Liverpool) - £6m DEFENDER 25yo former Spanish-U21 international* *this should change to full international Fraser Forster (Celtic) - Season-long loan GK Joey Barton (QPR) - Free MIDFIELDER 28yo former England international(1 cap) In terms of who has left, 3 first team players: Nolan, Enrique + Barton, along with our backup centreback. Routledge was never in the picture once Hughton left. We've brought in Cabaye and Santon to replace Nolan and Enrique, while it could be argued that Marveaux has replaced Barton's position in the squad. We've added Demba Ba, Obertan, a back-up keeper and a promising midfielder. Has the sky fallen in yet? EDIT: compare the quality coming in with the quality that has left. Stu
PS: No matter how poor he was after Xmas, still disappointed we didn't sign a 4th centreback to replace Sol.
Rich
Stu, I appreciate you trying to maintain a reasonable stance, but as has been said plenty of times by plenty of people it's more about what we didn't do than what we did do. Of course it's not the end of the world, but it should have been so, so much better. While I agree the players we have brought in all look to be quite exciting there's just no excuse to have trousered so much money in the process. Disco
Nice use of figures on the Elliott transfer Bought some good players but a thin squad is 5 players lighter. Poor, especially given the alleged resources available. We've signalled our intent for this season to me and not in a particularly good way. Anyway, onwards and upwards, HOWAY THE LADS!
