If Duff also wants to take a break that's fine.

... and Shola of course

Why on earth do people say these things?

Do you understand how thin and injury-prone our squad is?

Clearly not, since you actually wish injury on players.

Getting rid of them won't help anything, managing them properly would.

Don't you think we're better off with Martins and Dyer/Sibiersky than with Shola up front?

Statistically, no. Sholas scored as many as Sibi.

It's the fact that some of you want MORE players out injured. This shouldn't be the case. It's Roeder's fault; he should be playing the better partnerships/more in-form player, not just who he thinks is the better player (ie. he'll automatically play Carr ahead of Solano at RB, Parker ahead of Butt at DM etc).

Because this is textbook Newcastle:

Zoggy finally given a run in the team this season will go from stength to strength and put in quality and confident displays. And as soon as Duff is match fit again, Roeder will dump Zog back out of the team and start Duffers on the left every game.

Good news for the team

Yes, you're so right. I forget how in depth our squad is. So many fit and uninjured players, I'm sure we won't miss him.

Why don't you quote the entire sentence? Anyway, i'd much rather Parker was injured if it means Butt and Emre start in our priority games, and perform like they did today. If it means Pattison has to cover in some insignificant ones, so be it.

Why don't you quote the entire sentence?

Because I was mainly concentrating on the quoted section of what you posted?

I said it was good news due to the second half of the sentence, so you either had trouble finishing it or decided to leave it out to add weight to your point?

Obviously, i would prefer Parker to be fit and provide cover for midfield. However, Roeder simply won't drop him (no matter how well Emre and Butt play), so ultimately it's good for the team if he's unavailable for selection.

But I've already noted that above - it's Roeder's problem, he needs to sort it out. Just having the players out injured isn't the way forward, as I know you know.

But as i've already said, i think he's incapable of doing so... we'll find out soon enough.

I just can't see why Parker can't sit deep, where i think he's much better. Butt's position and allow Emre top boss the midfield - which he is so good at.

Because it's a specialist role, it's not as easy as it looks and comes naturally to some players and is alien to others.

He did alright there last season.

The coaching staff need to spot that Emre is better getting forward and coach Parker to hold properly.

How do you do that, Dave? Seriously? It's like saying the coaching staff should turn Ameobi into a Shearer like goal machine. There has to be some talent for the role to begin with, but in Parkers case, there's none as a holding midfielder. He's not a holding midfielder at all.  The only reason people seem to think he can do that role is because he throws himself into tackles.

I don't think he's better than average at anything else a midfielder does either. Does he drive forward the way Emre was doing? And the way Dyer was doing when he drifted inside today? No, he doesn't do those things and that's because he doesn't have the ability. It's nowt to do with the coaching staff, mate.

I don't agree. We always looked better without him.

Why can't they tell him to occupy a particular area and not stray from that area?

Errr, well what if they are doing that but he's not doing it? How do you know? In any case, just telling a player to occupy a certain area doesn't make him a good quality holding midfielder. They could tell me to occupy that area and I'd do it, but I'd be shit at that level of football.

Obviously I don't know what they are telling him. Nobody on here can know. If we go on that basis then there wouldn't be any discussion. At the moment he seems to be running himself into the ground and not really doing anything; Jack of all trades, master of none. I'm pointing my finger at the coaching staff, as in my opinion that's where the fault lies. Doesn't mean i'm right.

Butt hasn't the energy, commitment, skill or goal threat of Parker (he has scored goals this season and previously), but he can do the simple things and works well - within his capabilities. Things that Parker should be capable of. I think that Parker should be in the first team, but at this time he's not deserving to be.

i think it needs mentioning how much malcom macdonald got slated for his slatings of parker last season.

It's worth mentioning that he should should get slated everytime he opens his gob no matter what he says. In my opinion. The way the joker tries to cling to some affiliation with the NE based on 3 seasons at the club is pathetic.

Well we won't agree. I think Parker has very liimited abililty, you think it's down to the coaching staff.

I don't care whether or not Butt has any goal threat, what we need is a proper holding midfielder and Butt is the only one we have. He doesn't have to have any goal threat, just the fact he can do the job properly will enable the entire team to function better and that will bring about a greater goal threat. As it happens though Parker has very little goal threat imo. Just check how many goals he's scored during his career and you'll see what I mean. I don't think he's even reached double figures over about 5 or 6 seasons. If he has then it's only just into double figures.
