Guest pont-toon
Magpies are closing in on twin targets at last Aug 21 2011 by Mark Douglas, Sunday Sun NEWCASTLE United have made significant progress in their drawn out efforts to land twin targets Aly Cissokho and Mobido Maiga. The Sunday Sun understands that Maiga met with Sochaux’s president over the weekend in a bid to straighten out the terms of a deal which would land him his dream move to Newcastle. And in another positive development Cissokho’s English-based representatives have met with Derek Llambias to help speed up a deal for the Lyon left-back. So far United’s efforts on both fronts have been hampered by their unwillingness to meet the asking price of either player. Lyon want between £8million and £10million for a player with Champions League experience, but United are sure the player favours a switch to St James’ Park. Similarly, an initial offer of £7million was rebuffed for Mali striker Maiga – prompting the player to go on strike and refuse to play for his club. United hope a compromise can be reached but will not go to the £10million that Sochaux were originally demanding. United were toying with the idea of submitting a fresh offer for Cheikh M’Bengue but it appears as if boss Alan Pardew is not sold on the France under-21 left-back. Highly-promising but raw, he is worried that M’Bengue may not settle straight into a league that is tough on Continental players.

TherealnorthernTOON
Just got a gut feeling that M'Bengue is going to be an excellent left back in 2 years time. And we will feel sorry for missing out.

Guest Craig-NUFC
gibfootballshow Andrew Gibney For #NUFC fans, don't get carried away with the Cissokho move, he's not World Class, yet to see him play a good cross so far this season 1/2 gibfootballshow Andrew Gibney Has struggled physically with a few match ups.
