Guest optimistic nit
Has this not been discussed to death in the Euro thread? for the love of god, some people dont bother to read massive 500 page threads and would not know about it had the op not started this thread. Ishmael
t was only a decade ago that our fans were smashing up town squares abroad so I don't know when we became moral arbiters. AND LET HE WHO IS WITHOUT SIN CAST THE FIRST STONE! Silly stance to be had imo. I'm not saying these things are acceptable but people are extrapolating small incidents to be representative of the whole population. The media have had an agenda for the past few years that Eastern Europe is too 'backwards' to host a major event and I feel that people are playing in with it a bit. Why was no-one saying Euro 2000 was a failure because this happened? Nobody, in here at least, is using small isolated incidents as fuel to label an entire nation. I am certainly not saying that this tournament will be a failure because of said incidents. I'm merely pointing those incidents out, raising an awareness. Now I know you should only really raise an awareness if you firmly believe that your actions in doing so will lead to an improvement or change or whatever, but it is needs must in that respect as its basically essential evidence for the main purpose of the thread... highlighting how UEFA are openly trying to spin all incidents and get them hidden away. The show must go on... In regards to the media, you may have a point. That Panorama was a tad Chris Morris.
Stifler
Russian fans attack safety staff after their match. One of them was beaten up by a group of people, another was repeatedly kicked in the head. UEFA are to take action but what can they do? They should just throw Russia out of the tournament. They should also show the evidence to FIFA and show them that they cannot possibly host a World Cup. Haven't they recently already been forced to play games behind doors because of hooligans?
Guest gggg
I think the media have created a culture now where people are determined to prove that Ukraine and Poland shouldn't host a major competition, so it wouldn't surprise me to see incidents becoming overblown and overshadowing the tournament. Apart from the training ground incident (which was terrible) I've seen nothing to suggest that there's any risk of it spilling over into the main tournament. Agreed. The media are desperately trying to create a racism storm, presumably so they can criticise FIFA. Remember all the nonsense before the 2010 World Cup too. There's been less incidents so far than at any other major tournament.
