Still not heard from second FIFA ballot, hope I've got some tickets but not overly confident.

They hadn't sent us any e-mail but went into our application and saw that it was successful.

Tickets to all six games in Salvador. Going to be some s*** this World Cup.

Just done this.

Got all the tickets I wanted in Porto Alegre (my base). Didn't get England v Uruguay tickets, will just try and buy some outside the ground on the day.

 That's excellent. Just remember that buying tickets outside the arena is a criminal offence in Brazil and also if you really want the ticket try through the first come first get phase on the 12th of Marc at 12PM CET.

Is it all the games in Porto Alegre? You'll have some cold World Cup, the morning must be freezing cold for Brazil. Never been there but could easily imagine morning reaching 3 - 5 degrees.

I presume the games I didn't get are sold out though so I doubt they will be any tickets on the 12th?

Will the ticket thing be enforced strictly? It's also a criminal offence here under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 but it happens.

Aware that Porto Alegre won't be hot, but I don't choose where my friends live! Also spending time in Rio and Sao Paulo.

Make sure you get out of the cities for a bit. They're all dirty, over crowded, hell holes. If you get out you might even be able to find a parking spot somewhere.

Nope, not sold out. Only few games are sold out until now. On the 12th there's definitely chance for tickets

Ah, then I will be online then. Do you know what time it opens on the 12th?

Lunch time CET. 12PM I think.

If you're able to get connected on two different computers I've heard that if you keep refreshing there's bigger chance of getting ahead in line even if they say you'll move back in the queue. Although since I don't trust this information I'm unsure.

I'll be in a meeting at a law firm in Bristol hmmmm, this might be difficult. Might have to get someone to do it for me.

If you're lucky there'll be tickets for those games when you get back from the meeting.

Think I'll engineer a move to dive out of the meeting.

100 days to go!

:megusta:

Dreamt Brazil were leading 2-0 in the opener against Croatia but I missed the half because I couldn't get home. Was weird as fuck being able to lose yourself in your neighbourhood.

(Reuters) - The number of Brazilians who favor hosting the World Cup has fallen to an all-time low just four months before kick-off, with many criticizing the soccer tournament as a waste of money that would be better spent elsewhere, a poll showed on Monday.

The survey by local pollster Datafolha showed that only 52 percent of Brazilians favored hosting the World Cup, down from a high of 79 percent in November 2008, a year after Brazil was chosen as the venue for the 32-nation event.

Support for the event has waned since massive protests broke out in June against poor public services and the high cost of building stadiums for the World Cup.

But the Datafolha poll also showed the demonstrations, which have become smaller and more violent as masked anarchist groups clash with police, were losing popular support.

The survey showed that 38 percent of Brazilians were against hosting the Cup, up from 10 percent in 2008. The result was surprising for a nation that is passionate about the game and has won five World Cup titles, more than any other country.

The survey corroborated the findings of another poll last week that showed most Brazilians would not want the World Cup to be held in their country if the decision was made today.

That poll, conducted by Brazil's MDA, found that 80.2 percent of Brazilians thought the billions of dollars spent to host the World Cup should have been directed elsewhere, such as for healthcare and education.

The Datafolha poll showed backing for the protests had dropped to 52 percent from a peak of 81 percent last June, when more than 1 million people took to the streets to vent their anger over deficient public transport, education and health services.

The number of Brazilians who are against the protests rose to 42 percent in February from 15 percent in June.

The survey of 2,614 people was conducted between February 19 and 20, one week after a television cameraman was killed by a homemade firework during a protest against a hike in bus fares in Rio de Janeiro. The death of Santiago Andrade shocked Brazil and highlighted how violent the demonstrations had become.

On Saturday, about 1,000 young anti-World Cup demonstrators clashed with police after bank branches and storefronts were vandalized in Sao Paulo, Brazil's largest city. Sao Paulo will host the Cup's prestigious opening match on June 12.

Sao Paulo police detained 230 protesters, almost one in every four that turned out, as part of a policy of registering as many violent demonstrators as possible to deter them from returning to the streets and facing more serious charges.

An anarchist group known as the Black Blocs is threatening to disrupt the World Cup, which is expected to draw about 600,000 soccer fans from other countries.

Any disruption of the tournament, which was meant to mark Brazil's coming of age on the global stage, would further embarrass President Dilma Rousseff's government, which is already facing criticism because of repeated delays in World Cup preparations.

Brazil's government and Congress are drawing up legislation that would help police control violent demonstrations by banning masks and making it easier to identify protesters.

I'm all up for demonstration but this Black Bloc shit is hypocritical. Basically asking for money to be spent elsewhere while promising the worlds of problems that will cost more money. The World Cup will be played in Brazil so why not just demonstrate all year long rather than wait until Confed Cup or now the World Cup to demonstrate?

No doubt about it, but will be handled by the police in the rightful manner for once. If they do it the pacific way sure, but they're talking about making blockades so players don't get to the arena and fans don't get in which quite frankly will only cause havoc and killings rather than what the primary goal is which is show the true colours of this Lula/Dilma governments.

Will the airports be able to cope? Heard some airport works will not be completed in time. I have two internal flights, Sao Paulo to Porto Alegre and then Porto Alegre to Rio.

Looks like there is still a lot of work to do on a few of the stadiums.

How much over budget is it?

Don't think there'll be any problems like that, it will be fine, police will use measure of violence to stop anything. I don't think you'll have to worry about any major events yourself, it's more the people who will demonstrate that most probably will get there asses kicked.

Hard to say but unofficial figures are talking about more than the last three world cups combined. Problem here is that tax money was never going to be spent yet ended up being more like half of the budget for the World Cup. All this while education, healthcare, public transports and roads are in terrible condition. I'll be the first to admit that I never expected the World Cup to bring any investments into healthcare or education, but a World Cup isn't only about football stadiums. Infrastructural problems such as badly prepared airports, old busses, no metro's and terrible roads were something that the government should've had ambition to improve and made part of their preparation for the World Cup. But that's all forgotten and it seems the only city that is going to be really ready might be Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Olympics.

It will still be a big party (hopefully) and I think most people will forget about all the problems when it begins. It's the only thing we're really best in the world at and we have to keep at that. It will always be a poisonous government as long as we as people do not change.

Been in Rio before Greg? For me hands down the most beautiful city in the world. When you stand at the Arpoador looking over the Ipanema and Leblon beach you see what Rio is really about.
