I've gotta go with Linvoy "Optimus" Primus MBE for CB. Seems a charitable chap.

Following his testimonial on 31 July 2010, Portsmouth announced that the Milton End Stand at Fratton Park would be renamed the 'Linvoy Primus Community Stand' because of his outstanding services to the club

Did this actually happen?

According to his autobiography, Primus is able to speak in tongues

 love Linvoy

Mikael Debeve for Boro....I think you need to change the rules, some of these names are fantastic. (I do vaguely remember his name being mentioned on the Three Legends phone-in way back mind).

 well I was going for the "if they've played 10 games, folk must have heard of them" as I haven't heard of Mikael Debeve. Happy to bend rules in certain circumstances.

Idea is to have about 5 shortlisted in each 3 positions and you can vote 3 times, one for each. Bit less ponderous than doing one for each position.

Non obscure in their own right, and it would involve a change in formation but can we not have the famous Fish-Costa-Fortune centre back trio?

Jorge Costa was quality for Charlton. Only a brief stint but he was a pure leader.

Everton fan I sit next to at work has nominated Per Kroldrup. Signed for £5m. he was supposedly scared of heading the ball:

Moyes had taken him to one side and wanted to see if Krøldrup was ok.  This was supposedly the first realisation Moyes had that Krøldrup could not head the ball, and had something of a phobia about it.  He then started seeing a psychologist to cure this but to no avail.  Sounds a bit far fetched but how many times did “Splinters” Krøldrup spend the pre-match warm up working on his heading with one of the coaches?

Leon Osman confirms that he couldn't head a ball

Davie Moyes made some tremendous signings during his time as Everton manager but he had mixed results with the players recruited in the summer of 2005.

‘The gaffer paid £5m for the Dane Per Kroldrup , which was a lot of money for a defender back then. He came in and passed it well but…

‘On his very first day of training, the gaffer took him to one side and started doing heading practice with him, like you would with a seven-year-old. It was a case of holding the ball, saying: “Are you ready? One, two, three – jump.”

‘Honestly, it was incredible. I don’t know what happened, but he had obviously realised that heading wasn’t Per’s strong point. £5m for a centre-half who can’t head the ball..!

Jakob Kjeldbjerg could double up with Dmitri Kharine.

Bonus point for his commitment to trousers.

And his array of shocking keeper tops
