Welcome, obscurity fans, to the N-O Obscure Premiership 11!

Do names like Collins John, Junichi Inamoto, Oyvind Leonhardsen, Ulises de la Cruz and Calum Davenport tingle your fancies? If so, you're in luck.

The N-O Obscure Premiership 11 has some rules;

  • Player must have played at least 10 games for a premiership team since it's inception
  • Player may still be active but not with a current Premiership team
  • Nominations must be accompanied with reasons as to why the player should be included in the shortlist
  • A shortlist of players in each position will be put up for a vote, starting with GK and CB (where you can choose two)
  • The formation will be a standard 4-4-2

Preferable players will have one or many of:

  • A massive fall from grace
  • Off-field comedy
  • On-field comedy moments
  • Strange new career path
  • Extensive list of clubs in transfer history
  • Unusual physical appearance

etc

An good basis for ideas is probably the Random Footballers thread

Centre back, stolen from elsewhere:

Azar Karadas

One of those fantastic players who can somehow play both centre back and centre forward, Mr Karadas spent a season on loan at Portsmouth almost a decade back. Although he didn't exactly set the world on fire, his sole goal for the club a) helped Pompey escape relegation and b ) contrary to what Wikipedia says, it was alright rather than "spectacular". Since departing our shores, Azar has been involved in a big contract dispute/paddy with Benfica, and played in Germany, Turkey and Norway.

And, obviously, Calum Davenport. Highly rated before breaking his neck, attacking someone and getting stabbed loads (lost 50% of his blood). Now player/manager of Wootton Blue Cross

Talking of people that like to get stabbed (and subsequently going to jail for handling stolen good), former Royal Antwerp stallwart Ronnie Wallwork.

Kåre Ingebrigtsen - 15 apps for Man City 92-94

Jostein Flo  - Brother of Tore Andre Flo

Lars Bohinen

Thomas Myhre

Erik Nevland

Steffen Iversen

Martin Andresen

Ragnvald Soma

Off the top of my head, from a long list of random Norwegians.

Goalkeeper:

Pegguy Arphexad (All stats taken from Wiki)

- He saved two penalties in a Worthington Cup tie for Leicester in 1999/2000. Leicester went on to win the League Cup and Pegguy had his first winners medal as an unused sub.

- In another rare appearance, he saved two penalties in the FA Cup Fourth round tie vs Arsenal, continuing his reputation as a penalty saving expert.

- Played a blinder vs Liverpool, leading to Houllier signing him on a free.

- Managed to pick up 6 winners medals whilst at Liverpool, all as an unused sub.

- His career spanned 16 years but he only made 39 appearances for 9 different clubs.

Good one. Remind me to suggest Jesper Blomqvist for left mid.

I've gotta go with Linvoy "Optimus" Primus MBE for CB. Seems a charitable chap.

Following his testimonial on 31 July 2010, Portsmouth announced that the Milton End Stand at Fratton Park would be renamed the 'Linvoy Primus Community Stand' because of his outstanding services to the club

Did this actually happen?

Speaking of obscure Premier League players, normally I've heard of them....came across the name of Mario Espartero who played for Bolton in 2002. Literally the first time I've ever seen that name.

Doesn't qualify for this because he didn't play enough though.

In fact, his Wiki simply says....

Mario Espartero (born January 17, 1978 in Fréjus, Var) is a French football player who is currently without a club

Mikael Debeve for Boro....I think you need to change the rules, some of these names are fantastic. (I do vaguely remember his name being mentioned on the Three Legends phone-in way back mind).
