Realistic Transfer Targets (2025/26)

Open thread on a NUFC forum about realistic transfers, see argument ensuing about how much a MUFC player earns. 🤷‍♂️ As if a whole thread dedicated to them wasn’t enough.

Was trying to get my head around that, I even went back to check if I clicked the wrong thread.  Can we keep this shite to the Man U thread 😉

Just hypothetically, if Man Utd don't make the CL and if they end up signing Delap and if they're willing to take PSR break-even money and if he isn't on an absolute fortune...

....you can tell where I'm going with this...

...Hojlund?

His first touch looks absolutely terrible, Delap looks a better player technically, and Delap doesn't look like ever being world class. With good coaching could be a very useful striker...either way, considering we need a right winger, an incisive attacking midfielder, at least 1 center back, I'd hope we sign either a RW or attacking mid who can play striker, like Mbuemo. Ideally we'd want a couple youngsters good enough to improve the bench in midfield and either forward or defence. We need a lot to maintain top 4/5 while also playing in Europe. Wonder if we could get away with a 150mil net spend...or if Mitchell can pick up a couple of positions for 30-40 instead of 50-60. Always wondered why we havent heard much of hiring new scouts to have a constant presence all over Europe and occasionally in South America

Would definitely take Mainoo for a sensible fee. Doesn’t get into the starting three at the moment, but has physical attributes Eddie would love, so a year or so of being re-taught how to play football, and he’d be grand.

Hard no to Fernandes.

Think Diallo’s price would reflect the fact he’s somewhat overrated, but considering the absolute fume it would cause on Wearside, it could possibly be worth the overpay.

I’d agree with Mainoo, always been impressed whenever I’ve seen him play.

Ain't no way a player that cost £64-75m is on anything less than £100k a week, especially for a club like man utf. I don't care even if Højlund posts a screenshot of his taxes or pay slip that contradicts it.

He was that price because he was young. You're paying for potential. Doesn't mean he gets mega wage.

Mudryk was £89m wasn't he and widely reported to be on £100k a week. And he was older than Hojlund.

Then stop talking about us and our players.

I am all in for Mbuemo, secures our right wing and it would lessen the need to buy a back-up striker. Unless of course we get a cut price star (likes of Delap).

Would be happy with the Español keeper Garcia for 20-25 million quid, he has had an outstanding season and is quite a decent sized lad for crosses etc.

If Guehi is available for under 50 million then it is a no brainer, if Parish starts to f*** us around, immediately loeave to go elswhere.

That´s a spend of around 110-120M. Sales of Longstaff and perhaps willock (15-30M) could fund a replacement star midfielder...

The rest; i would be happy with overseas stars yet to be proven...

Oh definitely agree with you on that. My comment was directed at everyone involved in the discussion.

Harvey Elliot rumoured to be leaving Liverpool. Might not be a bad shout?

He's made 90 + appearances for Liverpool. I can't think of one player at a top team with that number of appearances and is not a regular starter, who has gone to another top team and done well. Same would apply to Rashford, Grealish, etc.

Maybe a player moving from one country to another but not within England.

It’s largely nonsense, aye.

Anyway, add Man Utd to the list of non-CL clubs under financial stress.

I’d take Mainoo, Fernandes, or Diallo for a laugh.

Garnacho would be the one I'd actually want if we tried our luck with Man Utd. Perfect storm at the moment with Amorim not fully keen and Garnacho considering options.

He'll be marmite for a lot of people, but I'd be confident if he was playing in Europe we'd be all excited for him. Still a raw player in there that can be moulded to how you want, and a direct RW in how Murphy has been can be that for him. With option he can also play LW in future years too. Decision making the part he needs to improve loads, but he's 20 and got a high ceiling to tap into.
