Earp
If you bag a child's ticket along with an adult ticket in the ballot, can you pay extra at the booking office and upgrade it to an adult ticket?

No I don’t think so, as tickets won in the ballot are officially non-transferable.

Unbelievable
So I want to go to the Palace game with my son as we will be over for the Lockwood Cup that weekend, and I want to give myself the best chance of actually landing tickets. This message on the website suggests that by selecting category 1 you have a better chance of being successful as you can also land a ticket in a lower price category: "IMPORTANT: Tickets can be allocated in any available category, and so if successful the total price of your application may vary. Prices shown are the maximum per price ticket." Has anybody been able to confirm if this is correct? Also does this include the family area? I'd be happy to go there, but since those tickets seem to be cheaper I'm afraid you wouldn't then enter the ballot for more expensive options. Is that correct? Also on the phone a few weeks ago the box office told me there was a separate ballot for international membership holders, but that doesn't seem to be the case as far as I can see. Bit of a clusterfuck this whole process

You don't get downgraded with the categories otherwise most people would be applying for category 3 to give themselves more of a chance to get into category 2 and 1. I think you'd be best of either category 1 or 3. Edited October 4, 2023 by El Prontonise
Unbelievable
Other way around I think, since cat 1 is most expensive and cats 2 and 3 show as same price for me. If you don't have a chance of getting into a lower price category if the more expensive one sells out, what even is the point of that "IMPORTANT" clause in there? Also, does anybody know the size of the category groups in terms of associated seats? Surely the chance of getting tickets is not exactly the same for all categories or most people would just go for the cheapest option?

I think they only say that if there's tickets in a given category are unsold which never happens. Category 2/3 are the biggest but your asking questions which fans have been asking for months there's no exact figures.
Unbelievable
Judging by this category 2 is by far the largest?
patrone
Category 2 is by far the largest, in terms of total number of seats, but nobody knows what percentage is "free" in any category when it comes to the ballots.
Unbelievable
Gotcha. Basically it's just guesswork as to what category gives you the best chance of acquiring a ticket?

It is, but it’s very difficult to believe there’d be more available seats in 1 or 3 than there is in 2. You could argue that everyone realises this and therefore goes for 2, but still, if your main concern is just getting a ticket somewhere in the ground, and you’re not overly bothered where, you’d go for 2 all day IMO. Earp
I'm not IT savvy by the way, but is there any way a third party ticket site can somehow bag tickets as soon as they appear on the resale site? A short while ago tickets popped up in section LL7A on the site which had gone in the 5 seconds it took me to access the area. Tickets have now appeared in this section on the Live Tickets website. Yes, they'll be bots at work. That's why they have recaptcha etc. Easy to get around though.

TBG
Wonder how many memberships have been sold off the back of last night. Me and my mate were on the fence about getting one given how the system works and knowing someone with an In at the club who would sort tickets before that was clamped down on. I know the chances of getting a ticket is still slim, but I cannot risk not seeing Schar playing in midfield in person.

TheGuv
Good for you @TBG. Better to be in that not. I had a Twitter disagreement with one such person however who is now trying to buy a membership and didn’t know how. I’m not at all convinced they’re even a Newcastle fan. I’m more than happy with people wanting to support the club and indeed buying a membership. But I still struggle with the notion that they have the exact same chance as someone who had a membership at the start of the season, or those who had purchase history going back to X date whenever. https://x.com/nufctrust/status/1709839241197347145?s=46&t=vdsN_AHh11-g3YCkSAx-2g
Earp
A mate bought a ticket from a third party ticketing site for last night's game. It turned out to be from a season ticket holder in the Leazes end. When he got to his seat the bloke next to him told him that the ST holder was ill and confirmed that he had sold his ticket back to the club. How then did this ticket end up on a third party site? Presumably someone bought it off the club at FV and then put it on the third party site at considerably more than FV?
