Unfortunately, the club can never do this. We have to accept that we're going to be selling off one of our assets here and there. The club has already hinted at this. Villa won a trophy and finished 4th, but their star player is likely to be sold this summer.

 

I think the confidence we need in the club is the trust that if we sell one of our prized assets, we can replace them with someone who is just as good. That means our scouting needs to be top-notch.

I really don't think any of this comes from him as a criticism of the club like. Of course he is obviously going to be unhappy he's not going to the WC, so journos can write that and suddenly it's a story. 

 

And our recency bias is so bad that we think a period of 2-3 games means Howe doesn't like him or something. It's ludicrous
