leffe186
You are under instruction not to dish out cards at their ages, u9's and u10's. You ref as a dad not as a proper referee at those ages. I do though give a right ticking off, in one case earlier in the season, i called the player over to his manager after several dives and mouth offs. I told the manager that the next time he dived or gobbed that i would book and send him off. I also wont allow spitting either, i warn them before the game and tell them right if i catch them during it, i can getaway with that at the moment. I just hate it and i still play now, i've never spat on a pitch ever. Good job. I'm guessing there are some pretty tough kids/dads down in Saafend. Used to play the odd game out East - although the areas closer to London are much tougher. Funnily enough its not too bad, as soon as you go toward Basildon though. The kids are fine but the parents are just mental. Yeah, that sounds about right. Off topic here, but I have very fond memories of Southend as a little kid. We used to get a red doubledecker bus down to go swimming in the sea pool. Red Bus Rover awaydays or something. Took the edge off when I found out that was where Ian Dury got polio, but there you go. Reckon it's my natural cynicism but when you live in a certain place you tend to get bored with it, the Seafront is all it really has. Its ok. Ok just about sums the place up tbh. Ian Dury, legendary story at school about him and the polio. But it was a different swimming pool every time Oh don't get me wrong, wouldn't want to live there Naah, I know what you mean. I've lived all over the place, stops you getting bored. I love where we live right now, but ironically my wife wants to move to the UK. I might just take her to Grays, or to see my family in Sheerness, to cure her. Sheerness, my Aunt lived there, makes Southend look like Dubai I'd like to put together a sort of anti-tourist tour of GB. Sheerness would be there, plus Silvertown, Redcar, Sellafield. All places I went to as a kid btw, thanks to a Dad who was into industrial archaeology *sigh*. I've worked all over the GB, i have a few corkers. I think one of the grimmest was Blackburn, it was like death. I'm living there atm and can confirm it's the dullest, most miserable place I've been to. It really is. I see your Blackburn, and raise you Cumbernauld.

The place is like a cone shape, with nice places on the outside and then the closer to the middle you get, the shitter the it gets. Luckily for me I'm living about half way up, so 5 minutes one way is countryside, nice pubs and decent walks, but 5 minutes in the opposite direction I'm in rundown estates and industrial areas. Superior Acuña
People (currently on 5live) saying footballers shouldn't get paid as much because doctors, nurses etc. get paid much less. I don't see the relevance. Footballers aren't paid by the government, the comparison is meaningless. It's supply and demand, if you don't like it, you're anti-capitalism (if so, fair enough, but that's not the argument they make).

A bit of balance so the fans aren't ripped off the whole time would be nice. Yeah, they're skilful and do things we can't do, have short and precarious careers and are entertainers, but if they are paid £20M plus, to choose a random figure. over the course of that career then it seems excessive. Not blaming them for taking it, not saying singers and actors and suits and dresses aren't also overpaid at times, not saying they all get that much, just, wow, that is quite a fucking lot of money. Take £19M and everyone gets a quid off per game you turn up for ffs. You won't starve and we're marginally happier. The bairn gets a fish finger sandwich this week. I know. Commie pinko beatnik I am. Whatever would be nice, the way it is inevitable as the players are worth a lot to the club, unless there's some sort of enforced cap by a governing body. Don't think you can blame ManU for offering loads or Rooney for accepting for it - it's what they're worth otherwise they wouldn't be paid it. wormy
My argument is movie stars aren't forced to have a cap on their earnings. Tennis players earn millions for reaching the top of the tree. I know it's not on as much of a scale as football, but isn't that a bit ott for 'just' being a good athlete? If fans and companies are willing to pour money into the game, it'll go to the people who have played a part in that, whether people agree with that individual's input to the game or not. Ultimately, the people you'll have this argument with will quite often cause it to come full circle to 'footballers are cunts, watch a man's sport like rugby' or some bullshit. And when that patter is initiated, I fuck them off from football talks.

Agents are the problem with modern football, since they get millions for doing fuck all when the option to have a PFA guy there representing them and the PFA instead get the cut which stays in football helping those further down the ladder when they need it etc while agent money goes to places like monaco (where Wille McKay lives) for example

Guest tollemache
You could argue that top footballers are underpaid given the money they're responsible for earning and the scarcity of people with their skill set. As for agents, the Secret Footballer has a good article on them. Having a good agent on your side can be invaluable, and people too often forget that in negotiations, the club is quite happy to use whatever tactics it can to get a good deal and will quite happily screw players over and get them on the cheap if they can. Having an agent on your side merely balances the situation up a little, so it's cunt-on-cunt rather than cunts v a footballer (who might be a cunt but isn't necessarily a very shrewd one)
Kanji
Top footballers are not underpaid, they get paid what many would consider more than enough. All top-level athletes are paid a shed-load of cash in wages and even more in endorsements. I'm sure there are some good agents out there, like in all trades, but there are also a ton of bastards out there who sway their clients into decisions for their own personal and monetary gain. Sure, the buyer or club wants to get the best deal - that's business. We all try to get a good deal out of everything, but when you have a middle man acting on your behalf in your best interests who is incentivized on money, you're going to have situations where a player is making the wrong decision from a career-growth standpoint because they get extra cash today. It's a broken system and every sport faces this problem. I think of players like Scott Sinclair and Jack Rodwell, who had no business moving to their respective clubs, as two young promising players who's careers could be hitting a brick fucking wall right now. Sima
I honestly think most players don't give a flying fuck about career or legacy any more and will just go where the most money is. i would personally Me too, but even by looking at the public information some players share you can see that some of them don't care about medals, etc. Obviously the natural scenario is that more success earns clubs more money which, in turn, allows you to pay higher salaries but you only have to look at the likes of Eto'o, Gyan, Hulk, etc to see that money is more important. Football is fucked and I'm becoming more and more disillusioned with it. The only sad thing is that the NFL season is coming to a close because I'm really starting to shift over to that. My love of Newcastle United will never subside but it's so frustrating knowing that we are never going to get close to anything resembling success anymore. Money rules and gone are the days where you would get teams such as Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa claiming major honours. The new issue with the linesman of the Arsenal v Man City game just proves where the ethics of the game (particularly in England) are.
