Plenty of room, too.  I had a few ‘routes’ over the years :) - don’t know how that happens, but groups of mates seem to have regular routes then somehow it all changes.

Pre-match it was the Empress - Beehive - Vault - Idols when I first started.  Then that changed to Union Rooms - the Pink Lane pubs.  Then the Adelphi - Bar Oz - Percy - Three Bulls.  And I have no idea when or how the routes changed!

Monkey bar and Bacchus for me early doors, then head for the Farmers and Percy/ Hotspur. Sometimes squeeze one in in the ground

Used to drink in the Garter with my uncle sometimes post match.

For several years I drank in the Adelphi pre and post match when Tess Mann ran it.  I never had my post graduate analysis in there lead to getting me a slap, either.

In all honesty, you just seem desperate to think that casual violence for overhearing people say something negative is par for the course in Newcastle’s less shiny pubs.  In two decades drinking in those places I can honestly say I saw less pagga and aggro than in the shit plastic Bigg Market bars of my yoof.  Listing ‘hard bars’ in Newcastle and fantasising that a bloke you’ve never met will get beaten up in it for saying that John Hall is a cunt is an interesting use of imaginative thought, even if it is borderline ‘my dad is harder than your dad’ crack.

Worst beer ever in the Adelphi but sad loss to the pre match route, does Tess still go to the games ?

Always drank in the Hotspur, just not on a matchday.

I liked going into the Monkey Bar after work sometimes (I worked at the PPA in my younger days).

Haven’t seen or heard anything about him in years, couldn’t say.  The lines weren’t exactly sparkling clean in there, mind.

Just to take you up on that though.

That isn't my point really. I'm not saying that there is casual violence in some of the more...infamous drinking holes in the city.

What I was trying to get at is that I think there's a difference between some of the opinions people have on here, to what most people hear out in town rubbing shoulders with normal people.

It's weird because I don't think I'm trying to defend the indefensible - I didn't realize that there was such disdain for him on here (to be fair I'm not on that much) - But I was always of the mind that fans and people of the area respected him for what he did at the club and what he did regenerate the area with the Metro Centre and the like.

Perhaps I'm wrong and the majority opinion is now that he's an evil old bloodsucker and must be burned at the steak of public opinion because he was a businessman, who, shock horror, had ties to people who favoured the wealthy.

If you want to call him cunt go for it, I'll not be joining in.

Cheers.

I doubt that calling him a cunt is a majority view, though I’ve no idea.  He was always a cunt for me.  He put very little of his own money in - a couple of million - and his family stripped an awful lot back out (£100m+).  He fucked off as soon as the float went through, though he continued creaming off the top, before selling us down the river to Ashley (who he constantly defended).

The Metro Centre was always proof to me that business much of the time is luck and not talent.  Hall and his backers’ plans for that area was for a small shopping centre with a large play area, and all on the cheap (land previously owned by the NCB being sold off cheaply after the destruction of the coal industry by the woman he funded and who knighted him in return).  It was the likes of M&S coming in and asking for more floor area that saw it grow and grow.

And RIP Leo Sayer - Percy legend.

Lotzy! I tried to set his hair on fire as a teenager in the farmers and he quite rightly smacked me with a pool cue. Got to know him well in later life and visited him in hospital just before his death, absolutely lovely fella.

Yeah, a genuinely sound bloke.  And someone for whom the phrase ‘propping the bar up’ could have been invented - I don’t think he ever moved from his usual spot.  I’m convinced he was still stood there after it closed.  I was sad to hear he’d died from a mate of mine.

Ooh lads, we're in the presence of some millennial, university undergrad level political theory here.

Go start mouthing off like that about a club legend, on a matchday in the Percy or on the concourse or anywhere else you're likely to encounter working class fans, and you'll be lucky not to get your collar felt bairn.

I appreciate what John Hall did for NUFC. I also think he’s an ignorant racist bell end. Which bars should I avoid?

😂

also find it funny that not everyone from that ‘era’ still holds him in such high regard. The whole bonds thing tarnished that.

New 65k stadium with scope to extend is perfect TBH. We don’t need to look too far to see examples of building too big just to satisfy ego, and the problems it can cause. Surely what we all want is a consistently full stadium. The *actual* number is just that, a number, nowt more.

Close.

Actually I've had 2 sandwiches today on the way down to London/Brighton which were focaccia bread with smashed avocado, tomatoes, red onion and scrambled egg.
