mozy
when you think of the modern fullback you think of players like Dani Alves who are quality whether it comes to attacking or defending. However the amount of times he is caught upfield put the team in jeopardy. a player such as finnan is excellent defensively and will give more stability to the team. A fullback is first and foremost a member of the defence so that is what the player should be mainly assessed on.
Dokko
Finnan was statistically the highest-rated defender last season in the Actim statistics. He doesn't catch the eye, but is rock-solid week-in, week-out and very, very rarely makes a mistake. No great shakes as a wing-back, but an exceptional fullback. I reckon if the Prem team lined up with Gerrard, Essien and Makelele or Mascherano in CM, the Spanish side would be overrun. Mascherano after 6 or so good games for Liverpool? Lets hope he's better at playing against Spanish teams than he is Italian then.
Guest teepee
there is a big big difference between the best team from both league and the best 11 players. the best team wouldn't inlucde both gerrard and lampard, but the best 11 would imo.
buzza
-------------Cassillas---------- Alves --- Marchena ----Puyol ----Sergio Ramos Messi ---- Ronhaldinho---Albelda----Beckham Villa ---------Ruud V This team would be a difficult one for a premier XI to beat... Guest
It's all very well picking the best players from the top 4 clubs, would be a lot more balanced to pick the sides from players from outside of the big 4. That way you get a better balance of which league is better in general. So if we ignore Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla & Valencia, then pick the sides. Might be up for grabs on a permenant basis if the weekends chip wrappers were owt to go by, the People linked him with a £16m move to City. Wouldn't say no.
