TaylorJ_01
Has anyone at NUFC worked out Donaldson best postion yet? Out on loan. Seriously though, let someone else work it out for us. Is he not a rapid bugger? He has a decent scoring rate too. Some sort of 2nd striker imo, like Dyer was occassionally...

Guest ObiChrisKenobi
Has anyone at NUFC worked out Donaldson best postion yet? Well he was a striker thoughout the youth teams, and the England set up, until Chris Hughton thought he could mould him into Alan Smith V2. Hope he's allowed to switch back up front, as he looked really lost in midfield.

Guest ObiChrisKenobi
Hughton has much say over the reserves? Being the Manager, I'd hope he'd have a bit of say over those in his 1st team, Donaldson was a bench warmer for the 1st team. Can't speak for Hughton, but I'd personally take an interest with my reserve team, and talk to the Reserve Manager about the players and possibility of trying out 'player x' here to see how he'd perform/adapt rather than risk it in an actual 1st team game. I'd use it as a test bed for a new formation too, but thats just me.
Cajun
Is there much point in youth and reserve managers then? I understand the first team manager having some say in regards to getting first teamers games for fitness etc but positioning and tactics for youth players coming up in the ranks? No wonder he apparently never leaves the place

Thought he was nippy but not lighting, small and light (though it says powerful striker in the article, can;t see that) but what impressed me most was his control and touch which looked as good as a 1st teamer. I really can't remember the game. A season loan would do him the world of good, 1st professional season under his belt. Hope it works out for him. I think League One would suit him best due to his limited experience, don't want him going to too big a club and be a bench sitter for a season. No wonder he apparently never leaves the place Each manager will have their own way of dealing with Reserves/Youth setup, if I ever became a manager I'd want to be involved in meetings and knowing how they were progressing. Getting feedback on the players that were coming up, telling the Youth Manager that we lack depth in 'X Position' is there anyone you think could fill that space/be retrained for that, etc. I'm not saying Hughton does this, but when he became Manager, and Donaldson became a fringe player, Donaldson was quickly dubbed the next Alan Smith and slotted into Midfield for the 1st Team and Reserves. I'd certainly want to co-ordinate with the Youth/Reserve team my overall coaching philosophy and tactics too. There'd be no point, for me as a Manager, having a youth/reserve set up playing a different style of tactics and formation to the one I'd be using with the 1st team. I'd want my hopeful next generation of players coming through the ranks to have been playing my philosophy from Day 1 they joined the club so they used to it and was second nature (ala Barcelona). Again, I can't speak for Hughton, I have no idea what he wishes to do with the Youth/Reserves, and its sidetracking the Ryan Donaldson thread. However, I'd much prefer to see Donaldson up front again, rather than getting lost in a pointless transition to midfielder.
ads
Aye, I think he needs a full season, preferably in League 1 where he will get plenty of games under his belt and it might toughen him up a bit. Could be a big season for him.
Thespence
He will be playing striker for ENG U19s. Battling against Nouble to partner Delfouneso upfront. I am sure he has played at least 1 game at CB, it may be more. Binnsy or Obi will know.

Nouble looked absolutely woeful to me when he played those few games for WHU last season. Like a really bad Carlton Cole and thats saying something.
