Sam's last signing should be a RB

Players who could do decent jobs:

RB- Solano, Taylor, Geremi, Carr and Ramage

LB- Enrique and Taylor

We need another left back before looking for a first choice right back. Preferably someone who can do both TBH.

But none of those listed at right back are long term right back solutions. Enrique is our natural long-term left back solution and we just don't have that at right back. Sure, we could do with better cover at LB, but the RB situation is that we have sufficient cover for it, yet not a sufficient 'first teamer' for it, making it a priority.

Some of Duff's best games for us have been at LB and with Luque and Zog and Emre all capable as left sided midfielders, maybe Sam sees him as able to cover LB

The way i look at it is Geremi, Nobby and Taylor would all be good right backs, Carr and Ramage being capable. At left back we have Enrique potentially very good, and Taylor out of position good with N'Zogbia average.

Imagine a situation where Enrique breaks his leg and misses the season, would you say a right back is more important than a left back then?

Where as Losing one of Nobby, Geremi, Carr etc wouldn't hurt half as much.

It wouldn't hurt as much because we'd be replacing an out of position player with another out of position player at right back. However at left back we'd be replacing an out and out left back for an out of position player.

You also forget that Duff is quite capable at LB as cover when he recovers.

The difference being that Solano and Geremi in particular have proven themselves very capable at right back. Not just stop gaps but potential right back material. Where as Duff has had two games there against some shite teams.

Simply imagine Enrique breaks his leg and if you give the same answer i would be very suprised. I agree we do need a long term right back but not in place of cover at left back.

We have two specialist left backs though. Baba may be a crock, but he'll do a job as cover for this season.

If we're looking to improve the first team and not just the squad, then right back is the current weakest area of the first team. Bring in a specialist RB and make Carr backup. That'll allow Solano and Geremi to play in positions where they are more effective, so the benefits would be numerous.

I think we've done very well to pad out the squad, in left back we had an opportunity to improve the first team without disrupting things and in Enrique hopefully we've achieved that. Right back now represents our best chance of improving the first team and picking up more points.

I can't see Baba being fit this season. He would have to put much improved performances to even be considered an able deputy.

If we haven't got a natural right back to begin with, we're not going to miss him when he breaks a leg are we, because we'd just put another sqaure peg there.

Geremi is nothing more than average at right back from what I've seen. Solano is no spring chicken and surely isn't long term right back material.

On the left we've got Enrique, a natural in this position, Babayaro, also natural to this position yet not great at it, then Duff, who has played some of his best games for us at LB, and Zoggy, who Allardyce is keen to use at LB if needs be.

On the right we have Carr, who is frankly not good enough, Solano who is capable, yet certainly not the long term answer, and then a player like Geremi, who's qualities would be wasted at RB imo.

We're screaming out for a quality natural RB more than anything tbh.

Wrong. He's fucking awful, and we shouldn't consider playing him if we can ever help it.

I hope you're wrong but fear you might be right.

Thing is Sam said after the Cacapa deal that he wanted three more players, and we've only signed Enrique since then. So that means he wants 2 more. A cheap squad player who can cover CB/LB would do me, and if there's any money left put it on a RB who will improve the first team and relegate Carr to back up status.

Dyer leaving was probably accomodating for those 2 new players by making room on the wage bill, seeing as he gets paid the wage for 2 good players. Be interesting to see if we sign anyone else if he stays.

In an ideal world we will sign a v.good RB and a centre half that can play LB. But at the moment I would settle for a CH/LB as we have enough players that can adequately fill the RB slot and Carr isn't doing too bad at the moment.

Four f****** million for Rosenior?

He's alright, but not worth that.

Enrique is a Spanish U-21 left-back with no Premiership experience that we've just paid over 6 million for.  Young English players are always more expensive.  I guarantee whoever ends up signing him (probably Villa) will pay around that.
