Bringing in a player that scored 12 goals last season in a better team and will turn 29 next year when you could keep the 23 year old who scored 17 goals in a terrible team just doesn't make any sense. Didn't Shearer get criticized in his last two years for being picked in the side for his "all round play" despite not scoring enough goals? It's pretty much a team game, tbh.

I think Viduka would be decent for us tbh. Just the type of player to partner either Owen or Martins. I think he'd start lots of games if he joined and wouldn't be a backup at all. I'd like to see us go for a younger player but you can only get someone who is available and wants to join. It's not championship manager.

I've answered your question now perhaps you can explain to me the flaw in the general principle that watching games live allows for a more informed opinion? Theres the arguement though that theres no need to make them captain. Players who are leaders on the pitch will lead regardless of whether theyre wearing the armband or not. Hence, why many managers often use the armband to keep their best player happy and dedicated to the club. Yup, made this point years ago about Gary Speed. He was our real leader on the pitch, letting him go was a big mistake.

So you must believe Parker is a better holding player than Butt? Please explain further? For me the captain should be Solano. Not that it really matters that much imo.

Parker can't even be rated as high as average. It shows how crap we've been the last few seasons that some people rate this plank so highly based solely on his work rate and graft.
