i'm all in favoyur of keeping things "in house" but with barton now being out for the season it's more a case of shearer stressing his discipline.

he didn't "win" the ball at all. he touched it before finding his INTENDED TARGET the player which is why he got sent off.

For the same reason that time wasting is penalized in every other deadball situation despite the fact that lost time is supposedly clocked? but it never is clocked properly. if the timing was done properly and players were told from a point of the referees discretion they were considered to be in possession of the ball and gven 10secs to re start the game.

the atmosphere may well depend on the results from saturday and sunday. though i have to say the atmosphere was shit after half an hour against pompey.

Do you honestly remember the old board as just being s***? thats exactly the point as one or two remember the old board as being only good. done well for a while then done and were doing s*** at the end seems a fair summing up to me. my entire point - is that people like you who were trigger happy and just wanted rid, wanted rid of what was still a good board. Would also make hurrying up and taking set pieces quickly when there's not long left in the half and you're chasing the game pointless. Might as well choose the best player to take and receive the throw in, move them rigth across the pitch into position, get all your strikers etc in the right position first. If the ball's in play less than 60 minutes of a 90 minute game then to get a full 90 minutes of in-play football the games are going to have to finish a good 2 and a half hours after kick off. Not to mention the fact it would make the length of games unpredictable which would be a nightmare for things like early saturday kick offs where they'd have to move it early enough that they know it definitely won't still be going on when the 3pm kick offs come around. Would also discourage terrestrial channels from showing football and throwing their schedules into chaos. mix and match then. clock stops when the ball goes dead and 10 secs to restart play.

to be fair i was watching the match and looking for anything to distract me from it.

Match would last hours on end. no it wouldn't and it would make any time wasting pointless. it would, go to an ice hockey match, a 20min period lasts a long long time sky used to do a stat of how long the ball was actually in play and it was usually about an hour then if you take out the actual time wasting. the problem at ice hocky (yes i've been) is that it takes so long to restart.

i don't think anyone at anytime,unlike what one or two have tried to make out,has said that the previous board were all bad all the time but the problem with "towards the end" was that you just couldn't see them turning it round. unlike what one or two think, peoples dislike of fred was mainly for this reason rather than disliking him personally.

i've said for a while time keeping should be done by an off the field official who stops the clock as soon as the ball goes dead.
