  1. Honestly never thought I'd see the day Shay Given left Newcastle other than with a big send off and a testimonial. A damning indictment on the disgraceful way the club is being run. I'll be totally gutted if/when this goes through.
  2. nemeth Spammers sign some guy I've never heard of. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/w/west_ham_utd/7851056.stm Sounds like a very good player from what the BBC write-up says. If we are serious about up and coming players then that's the kind of person we should of been looking at. Clearly a talented player, best of a good bunch of his age for the German youth team, but the money they have to pay for him is ridiculous tbh. Aye, seems a very big fee for a Serie B player. And, even though he is only 19, 3 goals in 17 games, at that level, doesn't look great... I'm prepared to be proven wrong though... He's a winger though, how much would we give for Jonas or any other player having three goals and four assists to his name... In Serie B? Not a lot I shouldn't think. From a 19 year old in 17 games in this position? Honestly expectations from some people are quite absurd. But you mentioned Jonas or any other player. If Jonas or N'Zogbia were playing in the Championship I'd expect them to better that comfortably - you never mentioned age. How much would I give for a player with that record in the Championship? Not a reported £8m plus in West Ham's situation tbh. Might be class of course, mental fee for a kid in a lower league though imo.

  4. Since he joined that mob, he's now ten times worse than he's been in the past. Noticed Sbragia in one of the rags this morning having a go at him for tapping up Jones. So ironic given the way Levy whined about Man Utd in the summer. How long will he be allowed to get away with this sort of thing? He's so perfect for Spurs. Detestable club, detestable man.
  5. Easily 95-96. If we'd held on to that late lead at Ewood, that would have been the title. Heartbreaking.
  6. Sacrificing our only left back for a centre half (where we have a solid first choice pairing) would be looney tunes.
  7. Because he can answer part of the midfield puzzle, and he's young, and it's not as though he will have a high transfer fee or wages. How can he answer anything if he doesn't play again this season? I'm assuming the club will be able to sort him out before May. Even if not though, I don't see the problem in bringinghim here. There's obviously a worst case scenario here, but also the chance that we will have found a real player. I just think it's worth the risk. Newcastle United will be able to sort out his injuries? Did you just type that? He won't want to play in the Championship anyway so the "risk" is lunacy. The only swap deal I would entertain would involve Stephen Ireland or Robinho and no amount of cash would tempt me.

  9. Can't comprehend why anyone would want someone who's injured and showing no signs of a return. Do we get a free pint if we collect ten?
  10. Nope. Genius. Kinnear probably thinks he's the little bald one who keeps scoring.
  11. Would you sacrifice Given if it meant getting a quality midfielder in? No.
  12. We're certainly in need of a RB with Habib having no comeback date (and getting on) but I really hope we get a midfielder in too. With Guthrie crocked long term, if we don't, I really fear this will be our year for the drop.
  13. It says that he's a defender unless I read it wrong. Thanks Mick. Is he a centre half, left back, right back?
  14. Where does Ebondo play? And can we have a central midfielder please?
  15. What's he on? I thought it was about 40kpw. Try double. He's on nigh 90. Serious mate, he's on massive amount one of the clubs top earners. How would you know for sure? You make my heart sing. You seem to revel in misery. I know as I have a concrete source that knows it. Your choice if you want to believe it, he'd no reason to lie he's not a Newcastle fan, but hey I've never been right before. Either that or I was quoting a daft line from a song.

  17. Who? Villa? Yeah. Not sure if they will have to make repayments if the money was put in by Lerner, the advantage he has was that he bought a well ran club with little debt for something like £60 million, he could easily sell it and get back everything he's put in so there's little risk from his point of view. I wouldn't say £63m of debt was 'little' though. They will suffer a massive hit to their accounts through amortisation as we've established, their ticket prices are lower than us, their gates are lower and they have spent £100m on transfers and they'll have a hefty wage bill. How are they in a great state and we are "crippled" financially? Is it purely the owner's ambition in each case? These are genuine questions I don't know the answer to. Were they £63 million in debt before Lerner took over? Dunno, I don't know if that's transfers or what it represents. It'll be a lot more than that now if it is. According to Doug Ellis, Villa were debt free when it was sold which was why Lerner bought them, he looked at buying us and Everton but was put off by needing money to finance the debts. http://www.birminghammail.net/birmingham-sport/page.cfm?objectid=17993758&method=full&siteid=50002 Tbs it's hard trying to draw a comparison between ourselves and Villa because we don't really know what they owe to who or how reliable that £63 million is. Fair enough.
  18. Why didn't he say that then? He preferred to lie to the fans, claim that Keegan (who he hired remember) could have any player he wanted, claim he was here to have fun and claim that the players the club were going to go after were players for the first team with Premiership and Champions League experience. I also have seen no signs of improvement in the squad in four transfer windows. I know I'm cherry picking, but do you not think the back four has improved in terms of personnel? Howay we both know cherry picking is no good when it comes to staying in the Premiership. I'd say the personnel have improved but certainly the defensive record in terms of goals conceded has been no better than it was under managers before Allardyce, mainly because of the disgraceful lack of attention paid to the most important area of the side. Another example of Ashley being the anti-Shepherd there btw, one wouldn't spend real money on defenders, the other only does. Fucking typical.

I think the club as a whole was about £60m, not the debt. Someone posted their financial results a few pages back showing that debt.
