Both right footed midfielders. But both have played there. However... ...Curtis Good isn't. Naturally left footed, and can play left back according to Pards. Why keep shoe-horning players out of their natural position? Wouldn't it be better to have a left sided version of Tavernier? He is a left sided, left footed version of Tavernier. Different styles, but both are seen by the club as primarily centre backs that can play out wide. I don't claim to know much about Good, just going on what Pardew himself said about the lad, and he says he can play there.

No.

Spent 9 million on a striker in january. Closer to £11m at the current exchange rate. How? Fair question. I use these lads for transfer fees and they tend to start with the figure in Euros. http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/premier-league/transferuebersicht/wettbewerb_GB1.html

Who on earth would argue otherwise? The squidgers demanding we BUY BUY BUY without knowing the full facts.

He is such a massive dick. Give's me a little more hope than I had though. Brinkmanship of the highest order.

Lille chairman Michel Seydoux claims failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stage would not force the club to part with Mathieu Debuchy. Were they to drop out of Europe's premier club competition on Wednesday, interest in Debuchy is likely to intensify. Seydoux, though, maintains that he will not be forced into a sale and remains optimistic regarding Lille's chances of turning the Copenhagen tie around. He told L'Equipe: "If we fail to qualify for the Champions League would I be forced to accept Newcastle's proposal? You know that I am not very flexible when it comes to business. "We didn't show enough fighting spirit during the first leg in Denmark but I feel we found that last Saturday against Nice (in a 2-2 draw)." Sky Sports

Oooooooooooh! /Not going to happen.

We dropped our interest in Debuchy as soon as Simpson made it clear he would turn down the few offers on the table for him and would stay. Any further press pieces about upping bids etc was just media guff to keep the stories on one of the few actual targets they knew we had an interest in alive.

Not a fucking chance.

In terms of people coming in it was great, just the setup that failed. Bassong, Guthrie, Gutiérrez, Coloccini...

Video: - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19378900 Hamann talks about his transfer from NUFC to Liverpool. Aye but its not the way to behave, and to be fair to most player they dont act like that to get their own way. If they really want to move (like Savage and Hamman themselves there, or more recently possibly Carroll, Cassano, Dempsey, Given, Fletcher, Bolasie, Olsson, Jarvis, Berra, Holt, Bunn etc etc etc), more will than won't imho. So wrong though, so disrepectful to the club you are playing for and especially the fans. Savage was prime example of how arrogant and distasteful footballers can be. He reckoned he wanted to move to be closer to his family and promptly joined a club actually further away than the one he left. Edit : Holt didn't move in the end though did he ?. Nope. It was rejected. /and fair play to him, he signed a new contract.

He's doing a surprisingly bad job of both if that's the case.

Aye, love that to be the case. Problem is imo, Ashely wont sanction loans as he thinks its wasted money. Carroll on loan to begin with was only because we would have bought him at the end. Could be that sort of loan for someone else. Hopefully. Same with Ben Arfa. We had no problem paying his wages and a £2m loan fee just to get him over, without any guarantee of him choosing to sign on permanently. I meant after Hoots left mate. We haven't loaned a player since Pardew became manager have we ? Sometimes i think its an avenue we could look down more, try before you buy and all that, Not sure Pards would take a different stance to Hughton; Think he was just suggesting we wouldn't do standard loans to benifit a players development for another club. As you say, if we are pretty certain we can sign them at some stage during or at the end of the loan, I don't think Ashley has any problem going for it.

We apparently bid £12m or whatever on a striker. The money is there to invest, but it's not simply a case of just going out and spending it. Any deal has to be seen as good value and right for the team and the club, something it is obviously hard for us to judge without knowing the ins and outs. To have a squad even vaguely comparable to Tottenham's or Arsenal's 2 years after relegation is pretty staggering when you think about it. Keep the faith.

Video: - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19378900 Hamann talks about his transfer from NUFC to Liverpool. Says something pertinent to our possible transfer policy of going in low which some on here like to take the piss out of. The club receiving an initial offer never accept, they will always ask for more. There is no point offering close to what you think is the true value of a player from the off.
-
Maybe, but they might not have a choice once Benzema get's his head turned by the prospect of wearing the famous cock on a ball badge, and puts in a transfer request.

Giving the club the benefit of doubt if we fail to bring in certain players this window has no relation to how someone rates Simpson surely? Why not? Whilst I don't agree with the absolute slating Simpson gets most of the time now, the biggest weakness in our team is as clear as can be. We've lined up a well-regarded replacement who not only can we afford, but seems desperate to come. He wouldn't do our chances of keeping hold of Cabaye any harm either. If we fail to get Debuchy then will people shrug their shoulders and accept that the principles come first and therefore what we have will suffice? That it was better to stick with Simpson than compromise with Lille? I doubt it somehow. Comparing this to the Luque deal is ridiculous and does the argument no favours. We'll be ok if we don't bring anyone else in, but like yourself, I'd find it beyond disappointing if we couldn't capitalise on a great season (one that will be very difficult to repeat unless we strengthen considering the state of our rivals last time out), and right back is certainly one of the most obvious places to upgrade. I have enough faith in what we appear to be trying to do though that without knowing the facts yet, see no point apportioning out blame, and can't justify getting angry if we do miss out. It's hard to believe we have given up on a player we clearly highly rate and put at the top of our shopping list because we're haggling with a willing seller over a couple of hundred grand. I'd like to think it was that simple though, because if it is, he'll be with us before the window closes.
