I say boycoutt the Mirror for this fiendish attempt to derail our season by dragging the good name of Deggsy through the mud.
-
That one was not striped though. But we had one in 95-96 season. That wasn't striped either it was hooped and imo they were both burgundy! Wasn't that strip introduced because they were the colours of Newcastle East End before they became United ?

You may have missed a few words in the post, as well as the point of it ??

He was in a gastro-pub for goodness sakes! The b****** Must say I heard the remark "WTF is a gastro-pub?" a few times yesterday.

I actually think it's quite cool to have a stadium called one thing but for the real fans to call it something completely different.
-
Didn't get a chance to really talk to anyone about this until the weekend but it surprised me how "meh" most people I spoke to were. With the internet fuelled outrage and airings from the usual media darlings and luvvies I expected a lot more fury. This may be because most of the people I spoke to about it are the sorts who would never refer to the stadium as anything other than St.James' anyway, which is what it will always be, but most seemed to think if anyone is daft enough to pay £10M to have it called the Burger King Bowl or the Evo-Stik Arena then good luck to them.

The "Lady Grey" is still the "Adelphi" and 40 odd years after last standing under the roof of the noisiest end in football it's still the "Leazes End". Owners will come and go, as will sponsors of this that and the other, but as long as there's a stadium on Gallowgate it will only ever be known as St.James' to Geordies irrespective of who pays for the naming rights.
-
Ta. Obviously didn't do much for Greenalls business then. However there is no doubt that us wearing the broon ale label did a lot to help it become a global brand.
-
Who was our first ever shirt sponsor ? Greenalls or were S&N before them ??
-
Thanks for making me laugh on this rather depressing day.
-
If we find a new sponsor for the stadium naming rights will they auction the old "Sports Direct" signs for charity ? Sometimes just don't know whether to laugh or cry at what goes on down at SJP. Err sorry I mean the SDA.

Although behind a first choice two of Cabaye and Tiote that doesn't mean a lot in modern top level football and certainly doesn't make someone a "reserve". Over the course of a season with cup runs, inevitable suspensions and injuries as well as international call ups he should feature in a significant number of games, as will other quality squad members.

The Magedia Thread - Sunderland suck trollolololol

It's so bad it actually made me laugh. Comical but pretty harmless I suppose. -
Maybe not, and I'm sure pretty extensive marketing research would be carried out before a brick was laid. However recent "real world" ticket pricing would help things. It should be noticed that in the always exciting, if arguably technically inferior, Bundesliga on Saturday almost every game was sold out with Dortmund pulling in nearly 81K and Schalke 60K+ and Newcastle could be considered to have as much potential as those two. That's in a country with wall to wall weekend live TV football and much cheaper satelite packages than the UK too.

Really sums up the spin they are putting on our great start to the season. BBC Look North also highlighted "unlucky Sunderland" losing their star forward (the one who was making his second start of the season) missing the point that "lucky Newcastle" had three players substituted through injury. Still this type of journalism should keep us focused on continuing to prove everyone wrong and is probably preferable to the occasional "fawning" we see.

I think we supporters really appreciate what Pardew, his coaching staff and indeed the players have done for the club recently, but the city of Newcastle itself should appreciate it too. Newcastle have always been quite well known on the international stage but recently when dealing with people in Europe and further afield they are all talking about us again and asking questions about the team etc. A successful football team definitely has a very positive effect for the city and region, business can feed off the club and vice versa.

Who was the greatest Burnley winger, Leighton James or Dave Thomas ?

Ralph Coates. -
See their advert in arrivals at NEWCASTLE International Airport has finally removed the picture of their star forward - you know the one who prefers the Abu Dhabi Sunday league to playing for Sunderland. Does that mean he's not coming back ? New advert just mentions "excitement" or something, but doesn't go into detail such as "hard to beat" "score lots of goals" or "concede very few goals" as their manager was recently telling the world.
-
BBC Look North ran their sports section along the theme of how lucky Newcastle were due to Everton's penalty claim (no mention of Sammy's even clearer shouit mind) and our first being an OG. On the other hand Sunderland were really unlucky as - yes they conceded an OG. OG's must just be flukes then and bear little relavence to how a game is going. Someone in their production team must be a real mackem and is going to be very happy when oiur "lucky run" finally ends.

not thiers tbf Bruce's policy of making loan players key parts of his side, really shows how small they are. No way can a club move forward with such short term thinking. Loans are to fill emergency gaps, not to pin your hopes on.

Pardew spoke early on about changing Taylor's body shape to increase his mobility, i.e. less upper body bulk. He has looked a far better player since so credit to Pardew, not to mention playing alongside Colo must be any central defenders dream. It took a lot of bottle to face the Stoke machine with a recently broken nose and burst facial blood vessel. Well done Stevie boy. Didn't know this, remember someone talking about how a lot of players bulk up a lot in premier league and it can ruin them. Someone said Heskey in his early years looked like a quick agile winger, then he bulked up massively...and became Heskey...Similaly Agbonlahor has apparently had a lot of managers telling him not to bulk up and remain nimble, but he keeps trying anyway. Less sure about defenders who I'd want to be able to not be muscled off the ball, but you don't need to be so muscly i suppose to compete against Silva and this new breed of small attacking players. It's brushed on here, but there was quite a bit written about it last season. http://www.sundaysun.co.uk/sport/newcastle-united/nufc-news/2011/10/16/steven-taylor-pardew-s-a-tough-taskmaster-79310-29601997/2/

I expect some minor "rotation", but there again I thought he'd mix it up for the Wigan game and he didn't. Much will depend on the reaction he sees in training this week.
