Is racist abuse still an issue in North East football?
Benwell Lad replied to Big Geordie's topic in Football
Sadly, remarks like that will be made by people from every part of the world. I was mildly amused when I was "racially insulted" in a foreign language, it's probably happened to almost everyone without them even knowing about it. -

I find that surprising, I have not heard racist abuse at a football match for years or even decades. Do you hear it openly or is it in conversation ? I've heard it a few times at away matches as well, but it's the odd incident. I've heard it shouted against the opposing players, but strangely enough to ours as well. Shola and Babayaro getting a bit of abuse. I certainly haven't heard it at SJP. -

More like the last two and a half years, with continued upward momentum and a sound financial and scouting/development structure would actually suffice.

Some pretty vile stuff aimed at Newcastle and it's black players. Was posted in Sunderland thread yesterday - not sure if it's still there. -

Strange that the only club named in the newspaper report about yesterday's disgraceful twitter rants is the one who's players were attacked by the racist. Why is it not mentioned that the racist is a supporter of Sunderland who comes from Sunderland ? The way their management has been bigging up the criminals on their playing staff, and routinely ignores violent pitch invasions, I think it is unlikely they will see fit to condemn the racist rants made by one of their fans. Sunderland AFC should make a public condemnation of the fan but most likely it will be a Liverpool type screen. -
You know, a few years ago they had their only chance in a lifetime to overtake us. If Niall Quinn hadn't got so many decisions wrong regarding managerial appointments and letting them spend shitloads on crap players, they might just have pushed on. Thanks Quinny.

He is possibly,no probably the best striker in the Bundesliga. We have signed a very, very good player.

Much as I moaned about it at the time, the Carroll deal should mean we don't have to. There's no excuse. It could, as some even said at the time, do for us what the Berbatov sale did for Spurs. Please keep the upward momentum going.

Just gone even further up in my estimation. He even boozes in great pubs! Where's the Tyne Bar? Ouseburn - used to be an old sailors knocking shop called "The Ship" - now a brilliant boozer with great range of real ales and lagers from all over the world. Often live music - had a good blues band on on Sunday after the match.

Just had another email from mate in Germany. "I think Freiburg has survived the last couple of season only because he scored more than half of all their goals. He has been the hero absolutely"
-
Just had an email from a mate in Hamburg. " I don’t like him, he scored three against St.Pauli last season "

German media probably tends to be slightly more cautious about it's reporting but this looks done. http://www.spox.com/de/sport/fussball/rundumdenball/1201/1701-tagesticker-mario-gomez-fc-bayern-muenchen-mario-basler-robin-van-persie-arsenal-news-geruechte-nils-petersen.html

If the last few years are any indication. This is the step forward before the two steps back. In truth this club has only been moving in one direction over the last two and a half years. Not that I'm counting any chickens like...........................

Must have stepped aside for us If the mackems are upset at losing out on Cisse perhaps Gyan could recommend life in Sunderland to one of his fellow international strikers. No?

Perch has looked very competent when coming on as a defensive MF sub. I get the feeling the other players appreciate him more than the fans do. -
The ordeal he has been through over the last 18 months should not be forgotten. To be back displaying such a sublime level of skill and looking physically stronger than before says a lot about his determination to succeed.

That presumes Ashley tells the truth. Secondly it presumes Branson has any grasp of football, which he doesnt. He said we beat manchester 3 love... Yeah and Branson wouldn't have consulted with any advisors either, just taken everything Lambias said at face value before handing over £10M. It probably helps explain why he's one of the richest men on the planet too.

Perfect team/manager for him would be a Mark Hughes team. Derry and Cattermole would be a dream for Hughes like. Derry is a poor mans Cattermole. Or vice versa. Both shite anyway, but maybe Derry is capable of keeping his thuggish antics to the football pitch.

Cattermole should be in nick soon if the judicial system functions properly and makes an example of the overpaid thug/car vandal. That wouldn't really be the judicial system functioning properly though would it? Bit pedantic that like, but if you want a logical answer, as a highly paid sportsman and possible role model to younger fans, him enjoying a wrecking spree of innocent people's cars may be perceived as worse than if it were carried out by a younger less privileged person and the sentence could (and many would say should) reflect that.
