  1. Fuck me, I lied. They've replied already. "Apologies for the confusion. We will take the blame. The wrong story was picked up and we have to hold our hands up. Mistakes happen, but hopefully no too frequently. Thank you for your interest and you are quite right about when it was written!" Fair play for trying to explain, anyway.
  2. Sent their sports desk an email. Not rude or anything, just genuinely want to know how the hell that story appeared :D I really doubt they'll reply, somehow.
  3. Just in case anyone missed it, this interview was done about 6 months ago. He wasn't a sub against Wigan, he hasn't played 41 games this season, and we're not in the UEFA cup What a balls up. http://icnewcastle.icnetwork.co.uk/newcastleunited/news/tm_headline=i-can-be-united-marathon-man&method=full&objectid=18680894&siteid=50081-name_page.html Orignal story... 27th Feb!
  4. Half a page on this today... WTF were they drinking? Couldn't believe it as I was reading it. James Milner has told manager Sam Allardyce he wants to be Newcastle's marathon man this season, reports the Daily Star. The England Under-21 winger was surprisingly rested for their last game against Wigan, having been a fixture in the Toon starting line-up this term. He eventually came off the bench midway through the second half as the Geordies won 1-0 thanks to Michael Owen's late goal. Now Milner wants his place back against Derby tonight and has assured Allardyce he's fresh and fighting fit. “The fitness coach told me I'd played 41 games before Wigan this season,” said the former Leeds youngster. “Steven Gerrard played 60 for Liverpool last term and, if we go all the way in the UEFA Cup, I should hopefully get pretty close to that total if you throw in my Under-21 games. I'd love to play 60 games this season.”

Noticed both of those earlier. Sam losing his marbles already?
  6. Times's version; The Premier League player questioned as a witness in the inquiry into alleged fraud in football was Pascal Chimbonda, the Tottenham Hotspur defender, The Times can reveal. Chimbonda, 28, was interviewed on Monday by the City of London Police, although there is no suggestion that he has been involved in any wrongdoing. The questioning is not thought to be as a result of the £1.3 million inquiry, headed by Lord Stevens of Kirkwhelpington on behalf of the Premier League, into alleged corruption in the game. A spokesman at White Hart Lane was not prepared to comment last night, but the questioning of Chimbonda will have sent a tremor through the club as well as the rest of the Premier League. Clubs have been waiting anxiously for the final outcome of the Stevens inquiry and investigations by the City of London Police. Related Links * Premier League today The Quest team led by Stevens, the former Metropolitan Police commissioner, trawled through 362 transfer deals made over a 15-month period. He is yet to clear 17 deals made at five clubs, amid widespread dissatisfaction that the inquiry did not lead to more concrete results. Stevens did, however, pass the results of his investigation to the FA, which is deciding whether disciplinary proceedings can or should be brought against individuals named in the inquiry. The separate City of London Police investigation, though, has been comparatively swift. Apart from an arrest in Manchester, officers raided three clubs – Newcastle United, Portsmouth, plus Rangers, of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League – in July, searching for evidence of corruption, taking away computers and documents as part of their sweep. All three clubs denied any wrongdoing. The City of London force is said to be concentrating on two transfer deals in January 2005, both of which were among the 17 that Stevens refused to clear. They are the £2 million move from Portsmouth to Newcastle by Amdy Faye, the Senegal midfield player, and Jean Alain Boumsong’s £8.2 million transfer from Rangers to Newcastle. Willie McKay was the agent for both players and also acts for Chimbonda. McKay is thought to be part of the investigation, although he also denies that he has taken part in any wrongdoing. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/article2442291.ece
  7. Supposedly the transfer to Wigan was the one that wasn't cleared (and wasn't named at the time either) as it was part of another ongoing investigation.
  8. Didn't notice that. Cheers Tsk Tsk. Nice to see Spurs in a bit of bother rather then us for once!
  9. Just noticed this on the suns website. I'm sure we'll find out who soon enough. " COPS arrested a Premier League star on Monday in connection with football's war against corruption. City of London officers are believed to have taken the 28-year-old into custody on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud before bailing him. At present, the police have only confirmed the arrest, bail provision and age of the player being questioned. But they admit it relates to their ongoing investigation into football corruption. The move follows raids on three clubs — Newcastle, Portsmouth and Rangers — in July and the arrest of a 61-year-old Manchester man in May. Despite his club claiming no knowledge of the matter, the player's identity is expected to be revealed later today." http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2002390000-2007420552,00.html Can we start allegedly speculating? Isn't Dyer allegedly 28?

  15. While we're here actually, I got a reply from ITV finally about them showing 2 minutes of Newcastle, and 35 mins of the Man City game that had already been shown live...; Thank you for your enquiry. During the early stages of the Carling Cup where there over 40 teams in action over two days, it is not possible for us to show highlights from every game. We're sorry you were not able to view highlights of your team but please be assured that your comments have been duly noted. Regards DUTY OFFICE - GDL IE; they didn't even fucking read what I wrote.
  16. The goal and a couple of other highlights are in Owens interview on world now
  17. Delighted. Spent time and money properly on the entire defence, which hasn't been done for years. Proper strength in depth now it seems, also the first time for ages. Got rid of some shit too. Well happy.
