  1. Ashley may well want a 'shirt-seller' at some stage, hopefully his team would identify a list of players that would all qualify as a global name and let Sam name a 1, 2, 3 choice.

Done that way Ashley gets a player in black and white that sells shirts worldwide and raises the club profile and Sam gets a player he actually wants or needs.

Don't think it will ever be done the old way again, thank God, the trophy players that were as much about fan appeasement and season ticket sales as anything else.

  2. I don't think we'll be getting 2 LB's. Sam may have decided Babayaro is worth another go, and getting one more LB in gives competition for places.

If come the end of July the situation is the same as now we have a right to be concerned.

However, all said and done I'd stake everything I own that the team is going to perform a lot better next season purely down to the new regime. If Europe is achieved, and I believe it is achievable, then we will see what the score is in respect of Ashleys ambitions.

  3. Maybe we should chat about who we wouldn't have as Captain, narrow it down that way until there's only one man standing.

I wouldn't have Butt, Owen or Given; those three are nailed on no-canditates for me. ( I used to think Butt could be a good captain but he's not communicative enough and often his body language is negative if things go wrong.)

  4. Just another viewpoint, somewhat exaggerated to pass as a good story for whatever audience might enjoy reading it. Not diificult to see some underlying truths in it.

I don't let it bother me but content myself in the fact that they are discussing an historical Newcastle that doesn't exist anymore. Maintain faith in the undergoing transfomation that is happening and think of the potential Newcastle of the future instead of letting this bother you. :)

  5. Court case begins today or tomorrow in Bangkok, regarding the sale of a piece of prime land in Bangkok which Thaksin's wife purchased for approximately one third of it's value. Prosecution claiming corruption as Thaksin, as then Prime Minister, must have influenced the low price.

If he is found guilty of corruption then the league's 'Fit and proper person' Test should fail according to their rules regarding corruption charges, which apparently count for overseas courts decisions also..

If found guilty it will be interesting to see Thaksin surviving this and thereby implementing the league as corrupt also. :D

  6. BBC Article

He never got a real run here, and probably wouldn't have made the ultimate grade, but he seems to have flourished as a regular player in the championship.

In short the article says a 3m bid has been rejected but no club is named, then goes on to compare Chopra's performances last season to Nugents who is valued at 7m.

  7. Can't believe this thread has reached 8 pages already.  :deadhorse:

Read the article again, especially this bit..  And that will possibly include the arrival of a big-name player that will stun the soccer world.

There is no quote, it 100% speculative bullshit and if anyone had said this do you not think they would be quoted.

It sounds like something Freddy would have said and, if he had, we would be telling him to shut-up.

There are people in this thread convinced this is something that came from Mort.  :jesuswept:

  8. In 8 more days Allardyce will have been in the job for 2 months, in that first month a takeover must have hindered plans somewhat. Since then he's brought in four players that arguably improve our squad considerably, though reservations can be held over Roz as no-one has seen him play more than a couple of games and he's new to the premiership.

A backroom staff is in the process of forming the likes of which has never been seen at this club. On the run to Xmas Sam will identify anyone who is not fitting in to his plan and they'll be shipped out in January. So after January expect the best team spirit since the Keegan  years.

I don't think anyone has cause for complaint, though concerns are perhaps a different matter. It's very early days and when you compare the transfer activity under Allardyce and the previous incumbent it's a little like revelation.

Lastly, I think the journo that penned "Ashley to stun the football world" was in fantasy land after some mushrooms when he wrote the story. It's a total fabrication born of two rumours, the 250m over 5 seasons and the 50m transfer kitty.

I pray I live to see the day when papers are held accountable for everything they print, some of the rags will go out of business in weeks.
