To be honest they're worse then we are.

Just one goal.

We couldn't sustain the frivolous, suicidal spending that occured before Ashley arrived, my opinion on that won't change even if we are relegated. The clubs finances had to be stabalised before we could move on and that would have been safely achievable without Ashley's absurd managerial appointments and the whole director of Football debacle. I was one of the people who said we needed to balance the books and I'm not hiding, I'm still saying it. Though I do agree our last transfer window was very poor in that we didn't really improve the team at all and actually made money on transfers.

Going down itself would cut the wages massively with all the high earners wanting to leave left right and centre to play Premiership Football. We aren't in debt to begin with so I don't see anyway we could "do a leeds".
-
I don't know about that like. Wage bill of about £35 million (AFAIR) and turnover of £58 million(?). They're losing money at the moment, so if they lose around £35-£40 million in revenue (Premiership money, loss in match income and merchandise) then technically they're going to have to sack the entire squad just to keep losing the money they are now In reality of course Gibson's just going to have to subsidise the club even more heavily, but he can't absorb an extra £30+ million a season so they're definitely going to have to at least chop their wage bill in half if not into a third of what it is now to limit those increased losses.

Well I'm glad you finally admitted it!

We beat Boro last week FFS A team Villa couldn't beat this week by the way. Doubt we would have beat Boro at the Riverside to be fair..... Villa are better away then they are at home though.

Why would they care so much about finishing 5th? Also this lot couldn't beat Boro remember and actually looked like losing to them for most of the game.
-
this is newcastle we're talking about, and when have this set of players actually went to win a match which we weren't expecting Portsmouth away and Villa at home, who was expecting those wins?
-
I didn't think we'd beat Fulham. I thought we'd probably get a point. Villa are nowhere near as good as Fulham at the moment, which seems to have passed some people by.
-
Amazes me how everyone seemed to think we could get a result against Fulham, yet the same people think there's no chance for us against Villa
-
Surely Webb won't be involved? We'll have to blame whatever ref nobbles the result this time around.
-
Ah right, depends on Monday night then Who knows, but IMO we've got a better chance against Villa then we had against Fulham.
-
The last man rule is about stopping a clear goal scoring opportunity though, so the ref should have to decide wether that was the case or not before deciding what to do with the player.
-
No apathy here, relegation scares the shit out of me and I haven't accepted it either, despite what some say we're not down yet.
-
You mean any worse as a team? Maybe a little bit but not by much.. We wouldn't be worse off financially either really as losing those players would drop our wage bill into the £25-£30 million range (thats if we could keep the likes of Guthrie, Beye, Bassong, S. Taylor and Lovenkrands, even less otherwise). Not trying to say relegation isn't a fucking disaster mind you! As if we stay up we could get rid of a lot of the same players without losing £30 to £40 million in revenue
-
errr, according to what source? Deloitte always have Arsenal and Man U level on around 85m and us 20-30m behind. Old figures, our wage bill is £70m, Arsenal's is £100m and Manures is £121m. Most other clubs outside the top 4 have wages around £30 to £40 million, our wage bill is insane!

My opinion on this depends on the Sunderland game today. If Sunderland lose I'll be at 7 as I think a win would then keep us up (both Sunderland and Hull winning on the last day seems very unlikely). As well as the posibility of a draw keeping us up if Hull lose. If Sunderland win or even get a point its a 9. Hull are still the team we're most likely to finish ahead IMO but having that extra chance of finishing above Sunderland would make all the difference.
-
Yeah I was including all competetive games there.
-
We've only failed to win successive games once all season (when we drew against Everton after beating West Brom), which is a nice little stat to have going into this game.
-
DJ Spoony for the right wing next season if we stay up?
-
Nothing wrong with the picture quality here like.

I don't think Newcastle United is as big as we used to be to attract better players...So we are not the WORLD either anymore... When were we the world like?
