If it is found that we've been needing to sell a few players to balance the books. Then this prolonging in bringing a sporting director in earlier seems crazy. They normally sort out buying clubs and do the deals.

They literally offered the job to somebody and he turned it down….

Mad that it’s gotten to this stage if true.

But it’s really not that mad if you take the view that buying clubs know we literally have to sell. Of course they will wish to negotiate from the inevitable cliff edge we have to stand on. It’s quite logical.

But you don’t get a more lenient punishment for it, Forest tried the exact same thing and were told they should have accepted the bid for Johnson in January.

Was Forest’s conduct the same - did they offer Johnson directly to Spurs?

When people agree with someone's opinion (we aren't selling Isak or Gordon ect) they don't tend to mock that opinion.  Don't see what's surprising about that.

You’d hope some might temper the instant “cunt” with “you know, he’s occasionally right or spot on”. To me it suggests lazy confirmation bias.

Do you get any credit for trying to comply?

No idea; more commenting on the strength of the argument. I don’t think we’re trying to sell him.

I get the idea, but we could have leaked it saying they enquired but the offer wasn’t enough. For us to leak we are actively trying to sell him leaves a bad taste.

But if they have to show they’re actively trying to sell, your approach wouldn’t work, because it would look like you’re turning down opportunities to comply

    How does it benefit Gordon?

Reflects well on him that big competitive clubs are interested, may ultimately contribute to harder-to-rebuff demands for better salary

I mean the optics of this and what Gordon must be thinking leave so much to be desired, I can’t believe NUFC are planting these stories to create a narrative if we miss PSR as has been suggested.

Imagine the players are fully briefed beforehand.

Not really. It just means we think he's still a cunt.

I don’t think anybody gives him credit when he’s correct or sticks their neck out to say good or I agree. Mildly antagonistic but quite a useful source of information.

There is definitely some desperation involved this close to the deadline.

I think the most useful thing I can say is that we fundamentally disagree on the meaning of the word “desperation”. To me this is just an unfortunate and irksome reality.

Desperation. How’s it come to this?

I don’t mind losing Anderson if it gets us in the clear with PSR. However if Elanga is the first choice winger then it’s just really shit. He probably wasn’t even in our top 5 or 6 targets but to get Anderson to Forest and in the clear with PSR it’s like he’ll go

There are so many repeat explanations in these various threads re: how it’s come to this.

It’s not desperation to be selling squad players / unknown quantity players to make money. Desperation would be being forced to sell multiple big name starters in order to survive or to avoid a big points deduction.

At worst this is frustrating and bemusing.

It’s just his opinion though so it’s irrelevant if it’s negative or positive.

Well it’s not necessarily irrelevant given that he closely covers the club, has relationships at the club and is briefed by the club.
