Had no idea this was in the pipeline:

Undergoing FIFA trials as we speak. Will lead to the end of linesman as offside and line calls will be fully automated. You can maybe envisage we have a referee in each half so that we have multiple eyes near incidents to make more complex rule calls.

An injury scare every game it seems. Lays on the pitch like he's dead, then pops up like Lazarus.

Had to take on that role once Hayden didn't make the 25

FWIW I think both decisions were right.

First contact did look fractionally outside, whereas the goal did look offside. Both were so incredibly marginal though that either or both could be deemed "not a clear error" and allowed to stand as the on-field decision.

The problem then comes from consistency - If only one decision stands and the other is overruled, then there's angry fans on one side or the other. Thankfully both were scrutinised, which leads to anger in the stands about what a clear and obvious mistake represents, but otherwise you run the risk of it being open to interpretation.

They were both factual line decisions so 'clear and obvious' does not apply.

Just thinking, our pen… VAR is checking for a ‘clear and obvious error’ or is it checking whether the foul was inside the box?

If the former, it clearly wasn’t obvious and the ref gave it, so by the rules it should be a pen?

I have a feeling that as it is a line decision, like offside, VAR tells the referee what decision to make.

Does anybody else think that little break where the fan was being treated actually did us a world of good? Before then, Villa were way on top and had a goal disallowed by the slightest of margins. It seemed that it let us regroup again and get reorganised, Howe got a few words in on the touchline. Villa never really threatened again for the rest of the game. I am glad it was nothing bad that happened with the fan, too.

The continued breaks in play helped us in the second half. The top teams know when to foul and I thought there was a grit and determination today missing earlier in the season.

Not sure on the rules around yellows these days but both Shelvey and Jo had their 5th today, so you'd think he'd get a chance. Great management from Eddie tbh, the players are running through walls for him and it'd be gutting to play well, win and lose your place. Bruno will get his chance soon and no doubt cement a first-team place.

Deadline for five bookings was GW19. You need ten to get suspended now I believe.

All the reports are the deal between us and Ashworth is done. We can’t announce/have him now due to his gardening leave. This is what is being negotiated between ourselves and Brighton (we give them money so he can join us without delay).

Although when I got a new job I still told everyone I had a new job even though I had to work my notice.

What I am enjoying the most since our takeover is the level of organizational maturity the new owners have instilled in a very short time.

We’ve gone from “jobs for the boys” with ZERO Football acumen to students of the game in Howe and Ashworth. Professional’s with pedigree and most importantly, hunger and a drive towards success with the opportunity at hand.

I know some were clamouring for big names within the sport to join our ranks, but those that have are pro’s on the rise, who are aiming to build upon previous successes with an ownership group intent of funding that objective.

This group (players included) were arguably at their lowest the first third of the current season, so it’s amazing to see the transformation come to fruition the last couple weeks, culminating with our win on Tuesday.

This is a big appointment and we’re lucky he chose to leave a job he was quite happy with. This bloke will make us winners, I am sure of it. 🙂

The bigger our salaries and ambition the luckier we will be attracting talent.

Yeah, he’s just not suited to this back 4 we are playing now. He would fine in the middle of a 5 but it looks like that’s not the direction Howe wants to go, side point but I know Lascelles is limited and people have got on his back as he seems to be one of the scapegoats when things arnt working but put a good partner next to him and I think we’ll see the player that he was under Rafa.

We could play three CB with:

    Schar Lascelles Burn

Trippier would be great as a wing back but maybe Targett is a more orthodox LB.

You then probably have to lose a CM for the extra defender and we have looked more solid since JL7 has been part of a midfield 3.

    Nice to have options.

Alli and VDB is really good business by Everton in my opinion. They’ll be significantly stronger when we play them.

Leaves their midfield looking fragile in front of a shaky defense. GITM FTU.

Merson is such an odd to choice to have on arguably one of the biggest Deadline Days in a long time. Should've got Micah Richards in for it.

    It's comedy hour

I stand corrected. I was a ST holder at the time.....and I honestly can't recall it all in one weekend.... must have been properly off me tits at the time

From memory, we stuffed Forest at home and LFC lost away at Sheff Wed and we jumped to second. A good night on the quayside.

No, but I doubt that's it. Trippier and Bruno are stellar signings, but we will need one more forward with pace and goals to make it a great window.

Dan's not a bad signing for the squad, although quite over-priced, but he will hopefully do a job short term. Still not convinced he's any better than Dummett tbh, but Dummett is made of glass.

Burn is better on the ball than Dummett and has the advantage of being 6'7"
