As delighted as I'd obviously be if we signed Van de Vaart, I would also be worried about his intelligence and/or mental health if he came here. If I were in his shoes, I couldn't think of one good reason to sign for us. At best, it's a sideways move. Keegan & Wise would have to put in one hell of a sales pitch about the short-term future of the club. Still, if there is any truth in the rumour that we've inquired then at least it shows ambition.

Of all the names mentioned so far - including Turan, Gomez & Gomis - I'd be happiest if we got him. I like his attitude on the pitch, in an inferior side, and most importantly he wants to come here. Would be a great signing.

Wash your mouth out with soap and water. I don't see how any team willing to put five out-and-out attacking players in midfield/up front at once can be accused of playing like Liverpool. In terms of personnel, they were incredibly attacking tonight. Yep. I thought Van Basten was reckless to sub on Arjen Robben & Van Persie with a lead, but it worked well for them. They have been the most positive side of the tournament so far, including Portugal.

The latter stages of this tournament could really be good. Croatia, Portugal, Holland & probably Spain....all good exciting teams.

I don't usually look forward to England matches but I'm really looking forward to Capello's England getting another crack at the Croatians in the World Cup qualifiers. I really want to beat them.

I've got a feeling that most of the people who wanted him for the Blackburn job think he will fail and would rather say "told you so" and get him out of the running for our next managerial change. I don't blame him for his decision. First of all, it's a s*** job really. No possibility of real success. They have no money, an average squad and he'll probably be forced to sell Bentley. Second, players like Klinsmann and Van Basten went from no experience to success with top jobs without "proving themselves" by taking a lower league or mid table job first. He could potentially get offered something much better in the future (and I don't necessarily mean the Newcastle job).

We need 5 or 6 players, so why waste half the likely transfer budget on him? Why "waste" it on Modric? The board obviously think we have enough of a budget to spend big on a player. A player of that quality can make a massive difference to a team. Imagine Spurs without Berbatov, Everton without Arteta, Villa without Young. Exactly, and he is a young player who's more likely to give us value for money which is apparently what we are after. I'm going to have to see more than he showed today to be convinced he's worth that kind of money. I don't think we are spending 30+ mil this summer either. I don't think many clubs will, especially the ones with our wage bill.

I hate Manchester United was a passion, Abramovich's "new money" never bothered me that much and I still like Mourinho. So I never had much cause to hate Chelsea, and preferred them to win trophies ahead of Man U. But Scolari has finally given me a reason to hate the bastards.
