  1. Love how Wilkins still manages to get his fetish for Italian football squeezed into every sentence.
  2. Clive Tyldesley loves it as tonight he was a legitimate reason to mention Istanbul.
  3. Then sulked when we wouldn't let him move to Barca, the cunt.

  5. I thinking about this earlier on today at work, now we've spent a fortune in recent years on some absolute dross, but over the years how many true value for money signings have we made? Obviously me only being 22, I'm just speaking from my perspective on what I perceive to be the best value for money signings we've made. The first name on my list that springs to mind, one Rob Lee. http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/39316000/jpg/_39316711_lee_203x152gi.jpg Bought for a bargain £700,000 from Charlton, he gave us everything over his decade at the club. Pedro was without doubt the catalyst for our fantastic form during that first season in The Premiership, but Lee was the bedrock of that. The best and most consistent midfielder I've seen during my tenure as a supporter , just followed by Speedo. Lee was fantastic for us, a true box to box midfielder, he scored goals, made goals for us, covered many a blade of grass, was an excellent passer of the ball as well. Then there's this man. http://dev.football365.co.za/site_images/118739.jpg This little magician brought us so much over the years, his calming influence on the pitch, his excellent technique, fantastic crossing and set piece ability. A dream for someone like Shearer to play with. The man never seemed to misplace a pass, always knew where to pass it to, made the game easier for those around him, which is always the sign of a good player. Me dad still always says this man, for the £150,000 we paid for him first time round, you'd struggle to find a better value for signing the club ever made, seeing as he's most likely the greatest player we've ever had in his eyes. Can't say I disagree with him mind, just gutted I never got to see Pedro the first time round. http://img102.imageshack.us/img102/8840/peterbeardsleygg0.jpg NE5, Mick, Pie, Rob W etc threads like this is when your inputs are all greatly appreciated. blueyes.gif

    Pace....

Write Owen off at your peril 2Gay. I'm not writing him off, but he was a lot more dangerous when he had that blistering pace. Correct? He's just back from a career threatening inj. Correct? If you count May which was six months ago recent then yes. He needs more football. He'll never be back to his peak I agree, but I'm not saying anything about him till the end of the season. I owe him that courtesy. blueyes.gif He's look a lot better playing for England mind, obviously due to the fact he's playing with better players, can play his usual role, on the shoulder etc blueyes.gif

Look how it can effect players though who once had it and lost it one way or another. Owen is an example of that at the moment, although the tactics aren't helping him. Shearer after that injury in '97, managed to re-model his game, although at the highest level was just a back to goal striker, when beforehand was so much more. Gazza after his cruciate injury, lost that burst of pace he once had, that not many people give him credit for.

    This Michael Owen

I think a lot of Fowler's troubles personally was down to his lack of motivation when he left Liverpool. Owen does have the hunger, just at the moment unfortunately things aren't going for him. I have no doubt if he was in a team like Arsenal, he would score a lot of goals. But the way we are now, and the type of game Owen now has to play, it's going to be extremely difficult for things to work out. In the past he could make a half chance a full chance, due to his pace and mobility on the pitch, now it's more of being in the right place at the right time, however if the balls aren't coming into the box for him, he's going to struggle, which has been evident lately.

    This Michael Owen

I'd post the video but I'd get banned. Go onto youtube and type in Michael Owen. It's the first compilation that's 7:20 long and New Order's classic song Bizarre Love Triangle is being played in the background. Come back to me with your feedback.

    This Michael Owen

I tell you what, some of you geordies are mental - fans like you (and I'm not tarring all newcastle fans with the same brush btw) know virtually f*** all about football and quite frankly don't deserve world class players in your team. He's not World Class anymore. Which in truth is a damn shame, as I've got tons of footage etc of Owen when he was in his prime, and it's a waste to football as a whole that he is no longer the player that he once was.
  19. He looks a completely different player to the one who was European Footballer Of The Year, even to the Owen who joined us in 2005. Is it a lack of confidence, is it the injuries, either way something is missing, that spark just appears to have gone. Yes I know he's not getting the service, and due to the type of player he is now, he needs some service to score goals, but it's very worrying as far as I'm concerned.
