A Night out. Have i missed something? My stats and account don’t look good. Unlikely that I passed the eye test either. Need a graph.

And I thought it was nice that the Minteh thread went quiet for a while so we could enjoy this instead….

I agree it’s not the best example or name. But the more exposure we get from all the talk in all sorts of media can only be an advantage for us. It raises the hype. Even when on a smaller scale.

I know he aint Ronaldo or anything like that. And that he’s not a big name in that regard. But his England performances and the hype around it along with being an extremely ambitious and expensive signing is a massive show of intent imo. This intent and ambition will cause a lot of talk about Newcastle and the direction we’re heading into. This signing alone will not result in massive deals all of a sudden. But the ambition of signing an England international and off of their better performance will help raise the profile of the club. Sponsors want “proof” of where a club is going and if there is a lot a lot about us in the media and the PL circus then sponsors will know about it and see this as a good potential investment.

This might be a different kind of point, you may not agree with it making sense but I’m convinced I’m right, despite getting things wrong all the time How much effort and money do companies (clubs too) put into marketing? Trying to grow their brand and reputation in every way possible. “If you’re not seen you’re not heard of”. Signing like Guehi however expensive he might be will be great PR for the club. People will be raising eye brows and the club and its ambition will get plenty of talk in the news and all sorts of media. This cannot be underestimated imo how much it will also help us off the pitch regarding the brand Nufc and potential sponsors and so on.

I know we’ve been joking about the likes of Schar and Coloccini playing the DM position. Guehi could actually do it genuinely well I reckon. Don’t get me wrong I don’t want him there but he has the awareness of space and is very very agile and nippy on the turn for a CB. Has so much composure and calmness in his game. When we attack I can see him going forward quite a bit at times. He also has the specialty tool in his locker at being able to read a situation and press forward nick the ball in front of the opposition ball, either with a quick burst forward or the octopussy leg around and then win the ball and recycle our attack once we’ve lost possession in the last third. Winning the ball off the opposition straight away in the last third after losing it can be so dangerous for us.

I 100% for this deal, absolutely no doubt about it even if we overpay slightly. But even then I’m thinking are we really overpaying? I would almost say no. It’s amazing and surreal for us to pay that amount for a CB but bring it on! Unless there’s a serious injury or something then we’ll have a guaranteed starter for RCB/LCB for the next 8-9 years or so. We won’t have to be thinking about upgrading. So much better than upgrading now only to upgrade on the upgrade later. Buy it once or buy it twice. IF this happens then we will think it was worth every penny and more in the near future.

A player like Guehi can very easily with a drop of a shoulder or agile turn take out a pressing attacker or two and burst forward. This would result in our other players having more time on the ball as well as us managing to get out of a deep and pressed situations better once we’ve regained possession. Normally when we are in these situations we sort of struggle to get out without losing the ball easily straight away. Schar for example is very good on the ball and can make runs forward, but that’s mostly into open spaces where he is at his best. Guehi has a bit more press resistance and can get out of difficult right situations more easily by drawing players to him which frees up space for others. Composed, quick, agile.

I agree, I think we will finally get a new one in. I’m just sure if THE One is available right now.

People talk a lot about money and what we migh or might not have left to finally buy that RW which itself is understandable to some degree tbh. Having said that, there aren’t even that many top top quality “expensive” ones available that we could attract or afford wage wise. Especially not in the age category say 20-24 where we most likely are looking at. At least I struggle to come up with many options. I think IF (even if it was unlikely) we had got Olise then we never would have even asked CP regarding MG. We would have gone for a cheaper one for CB. But maybe, just maybe we now have the opportunity sign someone like Guehi then he’ll yeah go for it. We’ll still have money available for a RW I’m sure, but I very much doubt we will be spending 50-70m on one as there aren’t really any options. We can still find a very good RW that might not be “Olise level” in quality and potential but still improve us. Then next summer go for THE RW whoever that might be. The one we most likely sign for this season can then be backup unless he performs ridiculously well and over expectations.

Seems to be an amazing human being too. Very humble and down to earth. Can’t underestimate character. Luckily for us it’s very important for EH.

You know what I fear about Luke Edwards? I fear that there’s not gonna be enough pieces of bottle glass in his next glass of wine.

For example, look at VVD when he went to Liverpool from Southampton. Everyone was like oh that’s a crazy fee. I don’t remember how much it was but if us buying Guehi proves to be 70% as good of a signing then yeah great signing. When VVD went it was also a long time ago.

I’m sick of the FFP/PSR shite too. I’m not gonna let that bother me too much and I suggest you all do the same. It’s a problem for later. To show maximum ambition we have to make walk a very thin line. Sometimes big risks means great rewards, sometimes it bites us slightly in the arse eye. But IF we are gonna aim for the top and compete then we have to make minor sacrifices like Minteh for example. See the bigger picture.

Put all the quality he brings aside m. This could prove to be a great “opportunistic” signing if we get him. Normally 9/10 he would be out of our reach, but there might be a chance now considering the other clubs and what most of them have already. This would be a signing that makes the likes of Isak and Bruno etc thinking yeah this is the project I was promised. It will very much help us keep our top stars. Or it would help if it happens at all.
