Non scoring 32 year old midfielder who would be on ridiculous wages, no thanks.
32?!!! Forget that.
Good point about the wages too. Would have to be very high I would imagine.
Don't think that Frings would have been too greedy when it comes to wages...
-
Wow ... how old is he again?
Probably looking at getting a younger DM to be fair as we have a more experienced one in Butt at the moment. He's crap but Kev values his experience and prem experience more specifically.
However, left to me I would get Frings and toss Butt out pronto.
Frings over Butt anyday...

Offered to us by an agent, but we're not keen. According to today's Chron...
We're not keen? WTF?

Seems pretty clear Newcastle were being used to up the wage offer from Benfica. Years of overpaying players takes its toll.
They are Slaves, tbh... :-)
-
Could we? should we?
Claude Makelele will be the first high profile name to leave Chelsea this summer as he eyes a move to Paris St Germain. (The Sun)No, thanks...

Xabi Alonso I could see coming here with Milner going the other way.
Would luv it...

I'm not sure that Benfica is that more attractive than us. At the moment they are playing second fiddle to Porto and even Sporting Lisbon.Feel baffled by some of the criticism at the board. what have they done wrong? they have gone after a player that i thought is too big for us despite his recent form. an ambitious move i say. we used to attract players due to our then-status and more importantly we pay them silly wages. now times are different... even though i want this move to succeed, it is doomed from the start once a club like Benfica comes in. if we are the only one interested, am sure we get him, beats playing in the lower division. Benfica is a much attractive proposition; his ex-coach which is famous and win things b4, much bigger club with history, similar culture and higher chance of winning something. us??? we are now no more than a midtable club, we do not pay big wages now, a so-so manager. Yes, i admit i love MA to be more free with his cash and pay silly wages to attract better players but who to say this is abt wages to Aimar. He just wants to play for a better club. No one is at fault. At least the board tries..... fact is we no longer has the pulling power...my my even that joke Anton Ferdinand rejects us and prefer playing as a back-up at West Ham.
still? still much more attractive than us.
I don't give a flying fuck how attractive you are...

New rule..any player that the press says were after will sign for another club..
okay, so let us think of anyone who hasn't been linked with any club so far...
Hooray we are going to sign Wesley Sneijder and RVN! :-)
-
Am I the only one who doesn't want him? I mean, he hasn't got the best injury record and I can seriously see him flopping. I'm not wumming, genuinely would rather we steered clear.
I understand your concern, but having witnessed the Messiah essentially raise Nazareth from the dead anything is possible.
If Keegan could get Owen going again, breath some life into Geremi's legs and bring some sense of direction to Butt's passes then I am very hopeful.
Never underestimate a positive manager when it comes to things like injuries and a loss of form.
If Allardyce was signing him I wouldn't be anywhere near as optimistic.
you mean Lazarus?
:-) Eagle Eye...
-
most fan's thought, owen and geremi we're finished
these 2 we're our most important players in the last 1/4 of the season
keegan get's the best out of players, he get's confidence out of players, which is usually why players form drops
king kev will get the best out of aimar
kin kev WOULD get the best out of Aimar... :-)

The big worry is that this story has meant to have originated from a source at the club, they seem to be trying very hard to keep any deals very quiet, I hope it is true but I have my doubts.
Its just a cover up leaked from the club. Tomorrow we'll announce the signing of Diego
You make me dreaming... :-)

-
Aimar will sign. Cuellar will sign. Baptista will sign.
Don't worry be happy.
New rule - no posting until one hour has passed after last hit on the crack pipe.

So the new 2008/2009 football season is almost upon us, that summer of pain almost to an end after the disappointment of the national team failing to make it to Euro 2008.
So I'll make a few pre-season predictions on who will finish where and who will achieve what this season.
Barclays Premier League
Top six:
Winners = Manchester United
Runners up = Arsenal
Third = Chelsea
Fourth = Tottenham
Uefa Cup = Man city and Liverpool
Relegated:
Stoke city
Bolton Wanderers
Newcastle United
Player Of The Season:
Cristiano Ronaldo / Manchester United
Top Scorer:
Dimitar Berbatov / Manchester United
Manager Of The Season:
Sir Alex Ferguson / Manchester United
FA Cup Winners:
Arsenal
League Cup Winners:
Chelsea
First Manager To Be Sacked:
Kevin Keegan
Champions League Winners:
Inter Milan
Uefa Cup Winners:
Manchester City
So there are my predictions for the new football season. These are exactly what they say on the tin ...Predictions, my personal opinion, I know I'd be more special than Jose Mourinho If all these predictions end up to be right, I just thought I would let you know my initial thoughts on who will finish where, who will win what and who will shine.
NewcastleI'm sorry but after last season, I can only see this one getting worse, KK will get the chop and Newcastle United will be playing Championship football next season .
Manchester united look strong enough to take three premier league titles in a row and have a new potential top scorer in Dimitar Berbatov after signing him for £28 million from Tottenham .
I'm not sure about two Champions League titles in a row for my beloved reds, I truly hope we can win back to back European Cups but somehow i see that honour going to Inter Milan And special one Jose Mourinho in his first season in charge at the San Siro.
Yes im Mad, I have Manchester City to win the Uefa Cup, and why not, they have a fantastic new manager in Mark Hughes, look at what he did at Blackburn in so little time, I feel better times ahead for the Blues.
I really do think Arsenal will be strong this season, yes they had a poor season last season but I think after Eduardo's horror injury the whole team seemed to be affected by it. I see them winning the FA Cup and reaching the last eight of the Champions League, as well as being Premier League runners up.
I see another quiet season for Chelsea in terms of impact on tournaments, I think they will avenge last seasons Carling Cup defeat by winning it back again and they will also reach the last eight in Europe.
I've got Spurs to upset the top four by moving Liverpool out of there, this may seem somewhat optimistic given that Spurs have just sold prized asset Berbatov, however I feel Juande Ramos may feel success in terms of league position this year.
I have Liverpool down for a miserable season, no trophies I feel and out of Europe before the last eight. And I think they will have to settle for a Uefa Cup spot in 2009/2010 season due to Spurs finally breaking the top four.
I think Stoke City's stay in the Premier League will be a bit like Derby County's last year, only I don't think they will suffer as badly as Derby did. But still I see them relegated as well as Bolton Wanderers, their biggest mistake was not doing everything to keep Sam Allardyce, it was a big mistake, I have respect for Gary Megson but I don't think he can get the most out of Bolton like Allardyce could.

still a whole lot better than Geremi's. Can anyone remember the last time we scored from a corner??
Better than Emre's too.
Didn't Beye score from a corner this season?
Faye against ManU? Was a corner, wasn't it?!?!

I love Baptista.
Keegan will turn him into the next Les Ferdinand.
Would take him anyday. I know he failed somehow at Arsenal, but I still think he's made for EPL...

I've just been watching a DVD called 'Gokhan Inler 07/08: Beyond the Glory', and i can tell you he is a mediocre grafter, a bit like James Milner.
Don't buy any DVDs in MaetihS pessimism shop!
-
He looks like a good player. He does look quite aggressive though, I don't know how he would deal with that coming to the Premiership.
Aggressive? Do you mean his style of play, or what exactly?
-
Slavery? How can he use such a word?
Only when you're an ignorant swiss bastard with no clue at all!
-
I think those supporting Ronaldo are do so more for loathing of Man U than agreeing with Ronaldo
Cutting off nose to spite face describes that daft mentality.
Much as I HATE Man U and their fans, (and I do) and while Man U fans will be raging at this, but quite happy at the number of times THEY pulled the same stroke, showing why the are so loathable, it would be the death of football as we know it if allowed.
Clown is right. Remember when he publically expressed the opinion that female footballers should wear tighter shorts?
So ? What the hells wrong with that ?
Don't read the Guardian man - it's affecting your reasoning as a bloke.
reasoning as a bloke :-) Stop talking s****, mate...
-
He will never change and KK will regret that he kept him at the club...

tbf, when fit, Hutton, King, Woodgate and Bale is one of the best back fours in the league.
true...

Why is it, that anybody does not want a well balanced squad, when it comes to ages? Only well-balanced teams are winning titles...everywhere! With our new policy, we might have to wait another 5 years (at least) to reach the top 4. Don't say that I don't like the youth policy, but we still need experienced players, which are willing to play and win. Frings fits in this category if you ask me...
